Among the most popular events on the Sydney Olympic Park summer entertainment calendar, Movies by the Boulevard will return for its sixteenth year of family-friendly cinema under the stars during January 2017.
Sydney's best FREE outdoor cinema event, Movies by the Boulevard 2017 will include a special extended Australia Day program and a massive variety of FREE entertainment for all ages.
Held at the iconic Cathy Freeman Park (opposite ANZ Stadium) on Olympic Boulevard, the 2017 series of FREE Movies by the Boulevard will operate on Wednesday-Sunday evenings from 7-8, 11-15 and 18-22 January; in addition to special screenings of Strictly Ballroom and Red Dog: True Blue on 25 and 26 January.
Pre-movie entertainment on selected Family Blockbuster nights will include FREE kids' activities from 6.00pm on 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 January.
On 18 January, children's' charity Barnardos Australia will be joining in the fun providing face painting and other activities before the screening of the Disney classic The Lion King. Also on 18 January, a Sydney Thunder kids' cricket clinic will operate from 4.00-5.00pm.
On 19 January, the Sydney Kings will drop-in to provide basketball pointers for all ages and abilities from 6.00pm-8.00pm. Sydney Olympic Park's own Monster Skatepark is also bound to excite skate fans on the night.
On 21 January, dogs will be welcome to join their owners for the screening of The Secret Life of Pets for the first -Bring your dog on leash' night at Movies by the Boulevard.
On 25 January, the special extended Australia Day program will include a ballroom dancing demonstration from 7.00pm, before Strictly Ballroom is shown on the big-screen.
On 26 January, Australia Day festivities at Cathy Freeman Park from 4.00pm-10.30pm will include carnival rides, live music, face-painting, kids' craft and sports clinics, a traditional Aussie sausage sizzle, international food stalls and an Australia Day fireworks display at 8.50pm, before Red Dog: True Blue screens at 9.00pm.
With the exception of the Australia Day 9.00pm screening, movies will commence at 8.30pm on all event nights.
A quality selection of food and beverages will be available for purchase at Cathy Freeman Park from 6.00pm on all 14 event nights, and attendees will also find a great range of cafés, bars and restaurants trading across Olympic Park.
Unlike other outdoor cinema events, Movies by the Boulevard attendees will be welcome to take packed picnics as well as cushions, rugs or low chairs to the event, which is presented annually by Sydney Olympic Park Authority.
