Three homegrown Melbourne mums and seasoned theatre performers will hit the road again this March as the Musical Sprouts to bring their fresh, fun and interactive new children's theatre show to Chapel off Chapel theatre in Prahran. After enjoying successful professional theatre careers, Bridget a'Beckett, Sharni Page and Julia Davis became mothers and began looking for a new way to express themselves creatively within their new lives. This unique collaboration came from a common belief amongst these women that a love of music can shape a life, no matter how little or big! Their show entitled 'A Day in the Life of You' is written specifically for children aged 2 – 6 years. It addresses the daily challenges of growing up, like learning to brush teeth, get dressed, clean up and go to the toilet and features original songs, live instruments, dancing and lots of audience participation.
The show quickly captured the attention of its audiences in October 2018 run after successful seasons at venues including Brunswick Mechanics and the Clocktower Centre in Moonee Ponds - with children and adults delighting in the characters created by these highly accomplished performers.
Creator, Bridget a'Beckett says," The concept of Musical Sprouts was realised at a time of immense change for me. I had just given birth to my first child and was trying to convince myself that the deep satisfaction I got from creating could be found in my role as wife and mother. While some women can balance this juggling act, I wasn't able to. Through much soul-searching I realised that creativity is essential to my wellbeing and even more so now that I'm a single mother. Working on this show is pure joy for me."
Chapel off Chapel will host the publicity launch of the show on Thursday 14th March commencing at 10.30am. The show will run from the 14th – 30th March with shows at 10.30am & 1.30pm. Tickets and further information can be found at www.musicalsprouts.com.au
"A Day in the Life of You" is supported by the City of Stonnington, Auspicious Arts Projects and the City of Moonee Valley.
