Nick de la Hoyde returns to Australia to release his highly emotive single, Mirror, Mirror
Independent Australian recording artist, Nick de la Hoyde has returned to Australia to release his new single, Mirror, Mirror.
Nick recently smashed his debut performance at one of America's largest hip hop festivals, Rolling Loud where he shared the stage with some of the biggest names in music such as; J Cole, Travis Scott, Future, Lil Uzi Vert, Young Thug, Migos, Wiz Khalifa, Gucci Mane, Lil Wayne, 21 Savage and Rick Ross to name a few.
Being on an international stage, Nick has described the experience as like no other and has said "It was such a crazy experience for me and I feel truly honoured to be on the same line up with acts such as Post Malone, Machine Gun Kelly, Wiz Khalifa, Lil Skies and many more."
Now back from Miami, Nick has his focus set on releasing his deeply emotional ballad, Mirror, Mirror. The single explores feeling lost, like an outsider, discussing insecurities and the challenge to push past them. "On the track I share my own insecurities too, so others can see that they're not alone," Nick says. "The song is very personal and came directly from my heart – there's no filter on any of it."
When Nick finished writing Mirror, Mirror, he reached out to his friends and fans to share their personal stories, phobias and fears. What came next, Nick describes as overwhelming. An array of clips from adults and children, detailing their struggles. The result is a powerful video, reflecting the message behind Mirror, Mirror.
A united voice acknowledging inner struggles and an understanding that beauty resides on the inside and not simply what looks back at us in the mirror.
The video has already attracted over 47,000 views on YouTube and over 145,000 streams on Spotify so far. View Mirror, Mirror here.
With over 428,000 followers on Instagram alone, Nick is a powerful voice for his generation and has collaborated with Australian Suicide Prevention Charity R U OK? who named him a conversation hero.
"R U OK? Ambassador Nick de la Hoyde's single, Mirror, Mirror reminds us all that regardless of where we are in life, we all have insecurities about ourselves. When we share these insecurities and allow ourselves to vulnerable with each other, we can start meaningful conversations, that could change a life," said CEO RUOK? Brendan Maher.
Nick talks about dealing with his own personal struggles. "To be loved, to fit in, to be accepted for who we are and to feel comfortable in our own skin is something we all want. No one is perfect and that's OK....our quirks and differences make us our own unique selves. Talking about these fears and insecurities with a trusted friend or family member can help us overcome them" Nick says.
With an impressive 100K monthly listeners on Spotify, having an honorable mention at the International Songwriting Contest (ISC) 2017, being nominated in the Pop Song category at the 16th Independent Music Awards (IMA) and being a finalist in the Auspop Award 2017 Independent Artist of the Year, Nick is solidifying himself in the Australian and Global market as an Independent Artist to watch.
Mirror, Mirror will be released to Australian radio today and an intimate showcase will take place to celebrate the launch of the single, supported by R U OK? on Thursday, July 5, 2018 in Sydney.
Interview with Nick de la Hoyde
Question: What inspired Mirror Mirror?
Nick de la Hoyde: Ever since I can remember I have always been an insecure person.
It's not something that's easy to detect if you know me but I do have my demons, as I know most people do.
These demons and the feeling of not belonging inspired Mirror Mirror.
I wanted to create a song that represented how I feel and for others around me that have these same feelings to feel like they are not alone.
Question: How would you describe your music?
Nick de la Hoyde: It has always been hard for me to describe my music as I feel each song is different and unique to the last.
I like to take my listeners on a journey whether it be an up beat fun journey or an emotional rollercoaster.
Question: What was it like performing at Rolling Loud?
Nick de la Hoyde: Performing at Rolling Loud was nothing more than a dream; to have the opportunity to showcase my music on one of the biggest Hip Hop stages in the world was just incredible.
The crowd was amazing and being an outsider all the way from Australia they really accepted me and enjoyed the music I played.
Question: Can you tell us about Mirror Mirror's accompanying video clip?
Nick de la Hoyde: It was such an emotional and beautiful process putting the Official Music video together. I had the idea but did not think I would get the reaction I did from my fans.
What they did for me showed so much courage and how strong they are.
Everyday on my social media I receive messages from fans telling me about problems in their life and how they are struggling to deal with them.
I wanted to involve them so they could see for themselves that everyone is fighting battles and that they are not alone.
Question: Which is your favourite song to perform live and why?
Nick de la Hoyde: My favourite song to play live at the moment would be a new song that is not yet released called Thru 2 U.
This song is more on the darker side of my music and brings out so much energy and emotion.
Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?
Nick de la Hoyde: I don't think I can choose out of the two, as I love them both.
The recording process is amazing and is such a creative time.
Playing live is amazing as all the hard work that you put into the song is shown by the smiles and the atmosphere of the crowd's appreciation for the music.
Question: What motivates you most when writing music?
Nick de la Hoyde: When I am writing music, I am always motived by events that have previously occurred in my life. The beauty of writing music for me is if I have something troubling me there is no better place to let out my emotions than through music.
Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?
Nick de la Hoyde: At the moment I am currently listening to a lot of Post Malone, Bazzi, Kanye West, NF and MGK.
Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?
Nick de la Hoyde: When I was younger I moved to Barcelona to pursue a football career, Being so young and away from my family and friends in a non-English speaking country took its toll on me as a person. I started writing as a way for me to vent and after time it grew as an obsession and ended up taking over my life.
Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?
Nick de la Hoyde: If I could collaborate with any artist right now it would be Post Malone.
He is creating some brilliant music at the moment and I love his style.
