Nikkola Jay Announces Infectious Single Lambo Ft. Tonee
Brisbane's very own Nikkola Jay (formerly known as "Cherry") has just announced her bouncy and fun filled single and music video "Lambo Feat. ToneE".
Since releasing her debut single "Mun Mun" in 2017 Nikkola has been hard at work finding and crafting her sound. Influenced by the likes of Missy Elliot and Die Antwoord, Nikkola turns heads with her infectious attitude making her stand out from the rest of the crowd and one to pay attention to.
The song "Lambo" itself was inspired when Nikkola was trapped in a car park by an obnoxious Lamborghini owner. Later taking to social media to vent her frustrations about wealthy people acting privileged, she took it upon herself to write a fairytale ending where she steals the lamborghini. The visuals compliment Nikkola's storyline. With a slick blue Lamborghini Huracán parked in her drive and dressed in Kill Bill like leather suits, Nikkola Jay is not one to look past as she makes her presence known with an attitude to match.
Interview with Nikkola Jay
Question: How would you describe your music?
Nikkola Jay: It's definitely groove and attitude; some unique flavours in there.
Question: What inspired the track, Lambo?
Nikkola Jay: I got parked in by a Lambo owner one time and it was super lame, had to wait until he came out to move my car. So basically that inspired the track wishing I could just get in and steal it. Daydreaming would have paid off then.
Question: What was it like working with ToneE?
Nikkola Jay: He's fantastic, I been working with him from day dot and he knows my styles my writing my flows. We have similar genre music tastes so it easy to get hyped on a project.
Question: What motivates you most when writing music?
Nikkola Jay: Anything really, I always have energy to put ideas down. I write best in planes though it's weird.
Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?
Nikkola Jay: Elliphant is always a favourite and Die Antwoord and I'm loving Khalid at the moment too.
Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?
Nikkola Jay: This is a tough one, I wasn't always focusing on the music style I do at present and I started in musicals and what not. My mum was a professional ballroom dancer so the showy vibes came from her. I woke up one day and said I'm tired of writing girly pop songs, I'm gonna write rap bars. And the industry sort of revealed itself as soon as I did that.
Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?
Nikkola Jay: Like let's not go past Missy Elliot I'd love to do verse to verse with her (laughs) that top tier stuff, respect.
Question: What's a typical day like?
Nikkola Jay: Well, I have a few months left of my audio engineering degree so while making my own music I'm also finishing Uni. I'm a super nerd. Talk to me about plug-ins any day. ToneE is a great mentor too. So I study, but look on my downtime I'm most likely being active, take the soccer ball down to the park, grab a coffee and play with my dog.
Question: What has been your favourite part of becoming a music artist?
Nikkola Jay: The fact that people vibe to my inside headspace is like wow. Who would have thought hey? And when I hear the whole song together finished and I'm still wiggling to it, gives me so much happiness. Like painting a picture and framing it, put it up on your parents wall. That kind of feeling.
Nikkola Jay: There are some seriously dope songs coming up, absolute bangers but I have to be patient to release them with Christmas around the bend. I suck with patience.
