Dear Doctor

Hi Dr Kate,

My boyfriend loves to go "down on me" but I am sooo embarrassed when he does. I hate the way I look "downstairs" and am worried that I might have a horrible stench! Although I let him do it, I don't really like it all that much. But I don't want to disappoint my boyfriend because he loves doing it. Am I normal to not want to do this?

Signed Embarrassed Chick!

Dear Embarrassed Chick,

Normal is a bad word - as really when you start talking about what people like or don't like there really isn't something that can be described as normal.

What is important is:

1. Not to be embarrassed about your body. It sometimes takes time for some girls and women to be relaxed and comfortable about their bodies. This can sometimes be helped by having a boyfriend that does think your body is great! Also though, sometimes you need to find out why you don't like your body - i.e. why do you hate the way you look downstairs?

2. If you don't like something that your boyfriend does - then talk about it - and find out together what you both do and don't like, and go from there.
