Over and Out

Over and Out

Over and Out, winner of the Best Short Form Series prize at CANNESERIES 2019, will debut to audiences worldwide on YouTube.

Held in Cannes in the south of France since 2018, the highly competitive CANNESERIES Festival premieres the best television and short form dramas from around the world. Created by Adele Vuko and Christiaan Van Vuuren, and directed by Connor Van Vuuren, the series was funded by Screen Australia and Google Australia through the Skip Ahead initiative.

Over and Out is a narrative comedy about two parents who are struggling to survive the trials and tribulations of raising toddlers... whilst being smack bang in the middle of the post-apocalypse.

Lewis (Christiaan Van Vuuren) and Freya (Adele Vuko) are stuck in the middle of the two most stressful things to do ever... raising toddlers and surviving the end of the world.

The series also stars Christiaan and Adele's children, Felix and Elke Van Vuuren, as well as an all-star cast including Brooke Satchwell, Rachel House, Nick Boshier and Annie Finsterer.

Adele Vuko is one third of the comedy trio Skit Box, who have achieved over 100 million hits online for several viral videos including the parody music video Activewear (80 million views across Facebook and YouTube) and I Got That Flow (30 million views across Facebook and YouTube). Adele has recently written and directed for Jungle Entertainment's hit series Squinters season 1 and 2, as well as having her short film that she wrote and directed, The Hitchhiker, selected in both the Sydney and St Kilda Film Festival.

After winning an ADG Award for viral hit Bondi Hipsters the Van Vuuren Brothers – Christiaan and brother Connor - have acquired an impressive collection of credits. In 2013 they both featured as directors on ABC's The Elegant Gentleman's Guide to Knife Fighting, and moved on to write and direct two seasons of ABC's multi-platform comedy series Soul Mates in 2014 and 2016, earning the pair an ADG Award nomination for Best Direction in a TV Comedy. In 2017, the boys co-directed Squinters and Sando, are currently set to co-direct comedy-horror Croak, to be produced by Bridget Callow-Wright of Midwinter, and Chloe Rickard of Jungle Entertainment alongside Executive Producer, Jason Burrows.

Adele Vuko said: "I'm extremely excited to be getting this series out into the world. It's a hugely gratifying thing to have worked on a show with my own husband and children, about the real experiences of being a young family, as well as the the not real (yet) experiences of living in a post-apocalyptic world. We hope to make it into a TV series, but can also be grateful that one day we can watch it with the kids as fond memories…. In like 15 years because there are way too violent for them right now!"

Christiaan Van Vuuren said: ""I reckon we've cooked up a show that can be enjoyed by both parents and lovers of the post-apocalyptic genre... And in particular, parents who are lovers of the post-apocalyptic genre."

Producers are Midwinter's Abi Tabone, Gemma Knight and Bridget Callow-Wright. Online Investment Manager at Screen Australia, Lee Naimo said: "The Skip Ahead initiative was developed to be able to support and champion projects like Over and Out and Skit Box.

The Van Vuuren brothers and Skit Box team have an established and engaged online fanbase and we're excited to see them build on their narrative comedy skills and reach new audiences."

Midwinter are also proud to announce that Skit Box, the second series they produced under the Skip Ahead initiative, is also launching on June 14. The series, starring Adele Vuko, with her Skit Box comedy troupe partners Greta Lee Jackson and Sarah Bishop, was written by Zoe Norton Lodge and produced by Abi Tabone, Gemma Knight and Bridget Callow-Wright.
