Caravans are a perfect way to experience Australia without worrying about where you're going to stay every night! You can just hitch one up to your car and go without a care. But not all caravans are the same, and you may not know that there are many different types out there. So what's the best for you or your friends and family? Read on these caravan buying tips from Savvy Caravan Finance to find out!
Where do you go on holiday?
If you go on holiday in resort towns or on the coast, you don't need the biggest caravan ever (usually known as a fifth wheeler caravan, the kind celebs usually use!) If you are staying in caravan parks that feature showers, water and electricity then a pop-top or wind-out caravan might be best the best and most economical choice.
If you're going off road, you'll need a caravan or trailer rated for that purpose. You'll also need survival equipment – power generators, water tanks and somewhere to put them all. Some little caravans might not survive such a journey, but camper trailers might.
How often do you go?
There's no point buying a top-of-the-line motorhome if you're only going to use it once or twice a year. Most of the time, you have to finance caravans in one way or another, and paying for something you don't use doesn't make best use of your money! If you only head out on the road so often, a cheaper option like a pop-top or wind-out caravan might be best.
Can your car tow it?
Sometimes your car just might run out of puff when it's trying to tow a caravan. A Hyundai Excel from ten years ago has no hope of towing a traditional 'full size" caravan around the countryside. A smaller camper trailer – maybe. But you should know what your car is capable of towing before you commit to buying a caravan.
Do you really need that in your caravan?
Some caravans really are homes on wheels. With creature comforts comes cost. Large caravans with kitchenettes, soft double beds and full bathrooms with showers can cost almost as much as houses themselves. So you should have a 'must have list" vs. a 'nice to have" list when shopping for caravans. If you can find a caravan with all of your must haves at a cheap price, you know which type of caravan to buy above all others. If it has a few of your 'nice to haves" – that's even better! It's all about cost and compromise sometimes!
