Postcodes Seal the Deal for Workers

Postcodes have well and truly joined the list of workforce discrimination issues with an enormous 43% of Australian workers believing they have missed out on a job opportunity because of where they live.

The survey conducted by Linkme.com.au, Australia?s leading career building and networking site revealed 64% of people believe some suburbs are absolute no go zones for employers. A further 33% said they had personally been discriminated against by their boss because of their postcode.

Campbell Sallabank of Linkme.com.au said:
"Of the 1256 respondents we surveyed, a scary 72% believe city dwellers are likely to get a job over those living in the outer suburbs."

"People chose where they reside for many reasons including lifestyle and family, which may not always align with the office."

"Employers are disadvantaging themselves by culling candidates due to where they live. Narrowing your talent pool by geography only narrows the diversity of skill, expertise and contacts at your organisation. "

"For an employer to disregard a candidate due to their location is ludicrous. If a person has the skills for the job their postcode should not be an issue."
