Priceless

Nicole Richie - bestselling author, philanthropist, designer, actress, mother, and the daughter of music legend Lionel Richie - follows up her Australian and international top 10 bestseller, The Truth About Diamonds with her fabulous new novel, Priceless.

From the stylish avenues of Manhattan and dark clubs of the French Quarter to the bright lights of Los Angeles, Nicole Richie's scintillating tale shows that the very life you run from is the one that won't let you hide.

Tall, blond and willowy twenty-two-year-old Charlotte Williams seems to have everything going for her - she's rich and gorgeous, a talented singer, and has just returned to her Park Avenue penthouse after a year studying in Paris.

But since her mother's tragic death years ago, her father, an extremely successful financier, has been her only family - and if she's being honest, her only true friend.

All that changes when Jacob Williams is arrested on charges of fraud, and the SEC freezes the family's bank accounts. With her father in jail and her partying pals suddenly scarce, Charlotte escapes Manhattan and heads to the one place she doesn't think anyone will come looking: New Orleans. Determined to rebuild her life, Charlotte moves in with her beloved former nanny and between trying to make ends meet and hiding from her past, she meets Kat, a fellow fashionista who introduces her to the best of the Big Easy's bohemian style. With Kat by her side, Charlotte begins to haunt nightclubs, securing singing gigs that soon begin to heat up - as does her friendship with a local boy, Jackson.

But Charlotte's being followed by an angry stalker who wants nothing more than to destroy her for her father's crimes. And with Mardi Gras just around the corner, the masquerade has only just begun . . .

Review: I expected Priceless to be about naturally beautiful girls who have class, fame and fortune; I was wrong. Although it begins introducing adorable Charlotte Williams who seems to have 'it all'- an overflowing vintage-couture wardrobe, an expensive jewelry collection and an endless amount of money- early on, things take a change, for the worst.

Charlotte Williams is a socialite whose model mother passed away when she was young and father is a workaholic, not normally home before 9pm. "Raised by servants" Charlotte was left an extensive vintage designer wardrobe and jewelry collection from her mother and has never had to worry about her finances. But that all changes when her father is suddenly arrested and jailed for embezzlement and finance fraud.

Charlotte has to face the public, many of which her father has stolen their life savings; she is attacked, cut from her socialite life and has all of her finances locked. Without a dollar, Charlotte begins to sell her designer jewels and clothes and escapes to New Orleans, to stay with her Nanny, who was by her side from her mother's death.

Determined to rebuild her life and show true heroism she begins looking for a job and becomes a relatable character for all readers.

From the beginning I was glued to every word wondering what was next in the life of Charlotte Williams from purchasing and wearing exclusive designer brands to selling her Chanel suits at a second-hand store.

Priceless is a story of the glitz, downfall and self-discovery of a 22-year-old female which follows on from Nicole Richie's first book, The Truth About Diamonds. Overall, Priceless is easy to read and shows amazing thought and character development.
