It's Mardi Gras time, and Melbourne Central is bringing the festivities in house with the help of cult denim brand Levi's®. From Thursday 20 February to Sunday 01 March, Melbourne Central will invite visitors to use their voice and record messages of support, love, and encouragement for LGBTQI+ communities at the Pride Phone Booth.
Building on Levi's® 2020 'Use Your Voice' campaign promoting self-expression and being open and transparent, the Pride Phone Booth is both an encouragement and celebration of those who use their voice to change the world. Supporters and members of the LGBTQI+ community can step inside the Pride Phone Booth to share their message of support, or recount a time when they've used their voice to speak up for equality or make a positive impact.
Shining a light on the ways in which our differences truly unite us, the voicemails will be available as a playlist on the Levi's® Australia Pride 2020 SoundCloud, providing access to those who need a reminder of how much they are loved, valued, and supported. Melbourne Central's Centre Manager, Ryan Ling says they are excited to collaborate with Levi's® to bring this art installation to life.
"Melbourne Central continues to champion equality, inclusivity and progress. We are thrilled to layer in art installations which not only support our LGBTIQ+ community, but also provide a platform for others to share their messages of support."
This summer, make your voice heard. Find the Pride Phone Booth on Level 2 at Melbourne Central (near Gorman), pick up the phone and leave your message of support and love; whether it be a few meaningful words, song, haiku or anything in between.
