QV Melbourne's Outdoor Cinema is thrilled to announce more live entertainment, themed food and drink, pop-up beer bars and wine tastings, doggie dress ups and special filmmaker screenings for their January – February program.
QV is embracing the holiday fun with every week in January featuring pre-film entertainment, food and drinks. Sessions begin at 8:30pm Thursday to Sunday nights until 26 February, with special event screenings commencing at 7:30pm. Tickets are on sale now via qvcinema.com.au.
On Saturday 7 January, the Doggie + Deckchair charity screening encourages you to get ghoulish and bring your dog dressed up monster-style for a screening of Tim Burton's Frankenweenie. All proceeds from ticket sales go to Lort Smith.
On Sunday 8 January, be entertained with a special teaser from Melbourne Musical Theatre Festival's new cross dressing musical comedy Chriss Crossed, before watching everyone's favourite cross dressing Aussie movie The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
The 12-15 January is a whole week dedicated to Melbourne's love of sport, with tennis and cricket films ahead of the Australian Open and Australia v/s Pakistan One Day match at the MCG. On Saturday night 14 January, come down at 7:30pm for a game of lawn bowls with prizes from Fitness First ahead of the Mick Molloy classic Crackerjack. Cinema goers can sip on Melbourne's best beers, ciders and alcoholic ginger beers at the QV Cinema pop-up beer bar.
From 19-22 January, the music-lovers are catered with Music + Movie week. A special event night on Friday 20 January features a busk-off from two of Melbourne's best busking bands Malcura and Opal Ocean and wine tasting from Red Hill Estate ahead of a screening of the 2016 Miles Davis biopic Miles Ahead. On Saturday 21 January, Emo The Musical has its first screening since Melbourne International Film Festival, with a special introduction from the film's producer Lee Matthews. It's a special sneak peak to catch the film ahead of its theatrical release in April.
QV Melbourne is celebrating Chinese New Year (CNY) with screenings of two popular Chinese movies, the action blockbuster Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon on Saturday 28 January and the Asian hit romance In The Mood for Love on Sunday 29 January. Audiences will be given to-your-deckchair service with CNY themed cocktails from Father's Office and Chinese food from Red Spice QV as part of QV's 'Red Class' cinema experience. Award-winning short films by Melbourne-based Chinese filmmaker Xin Li will also screen before each feature. Xin has won awards for his paint-on-glass animation.
Then an entire week is dedicated to Ryan Gosling right before Valentine's Day on 9-12 February. Teeling Whiskey will recreate Gosling's concoctions from Crazy, Stupid, Love on Friday 10 February, with free cocktails for all cinema goers who arrive early at 7:30pm.
