Rebel Yell Fall From Grace

Rebel Yell Fall From Grace

After a dazzling long weekend launching her record 'Fall From Grace' at Sydney's The Red Rattler, Rebel Yell today shares her full length album aerobics video, which is available for download now via Bandcamp.

NME Australia offered up the first stream of the video earlier this week, writing "it feels like an appropriate way of experiencing a particularly physical album".

Physicality has always been a key ingredient of Rebel Yell's creative process. She explains;

"I've always been an active person, but I've had bouts of laziness where I feel disappointed in myself for not exercising. During COVID I have been able to actually love exercise rather than see it as a chore. I had been going to these 80's aerobics classes and even did the Night Drive clip using choreography from them, as well as doing the workouts in my backyard with my housemate. So I decided to make a workout video to experience the album because I haven't been able to tour. Music and exercise makes sense to me and aerobics builds strength rather than expression. Don't get me wrong, I love to dance, but this way it can be focused on fitness and strength and process, something I think is very Rebel Yell".

Described by The Music as "an experience rather than an album", 'Fall From Grace' is a record dedicated to exploring the divisions between body, beat & groove - a powerful cry to the overthinker.

Grace Stevenson, the artist behind Rebel Yell, is self-reflexive and enquiring, and 'Fall From Grace' encourages listeners to do more than shut up and dance. 'Fall From Grace' is club music for the overthinker.

Using hard music to explore soft ideas – Rebel Yell gives a voice to the binaries that are present within all of us. 'Fall From Grace' sees Stevenson tackle her own vulnerabilities, reworking them through the persona of Rebel Yell to create fresh, hypnotic and unapologetic techno that you ignore at your peril. This record is a testament to weathering our difficulties and emerging from them with a clearer picture of what we really stand for.

Following the release of her debut album Hired Muscle in 2018, Rebel Yell toured Australia, Japan, the UK and Europe, linking up with fellow DIY creative forces and performing in underground venues and clubs across the world. 2019 saw Rebel Yell perform at Splendour In The Grass and Dark Mofo festivals, as well as countless national tours, before dedicating the remainder of the year to writing and recording her sophomore LP, 'Fall From Grace'.

After receiving a grant from Music NSW to fund her new work, Stevenson shacked up in a remote area in the Blue Mountains, using the space and solitude to write what would become the foundations of 'Fall From Grace'. Antonia Gauci was then brought on to produce and record the album which was then mastered by Phoebe Twigg (Ptwiggs).

'Fall From Grace', the sophomore LP from powerhouse Rebel Yell, is out now through Rice Is Nice Records.
