The 6th REELDANCE INTERNATIONAL DANCE ON SCREEN FESTIVAL, the largest event celebrating the collision ofart, dance and film in Australia, will take place in Melbourne during late May.
Renowned UK Artist and Director, Shelly Love, will be visiting Melbourne as the Festival's special guest and will bepresenting a retrospective of her multi-award winning career over the last fifteen years, via a series of workshops atDANCEHOUSE in North Carlton from 25 to 27 May.
And from 28 to 30 May, the Festival will commence its Melbourne season at ACMI (Australian Centre for the MovingImage), following the national launch in Sydney on 13 May.
This biennial event presents cutting edge film and video from diverse dance genres created by Australian, Indigenous andinternational directors and performers.
Opening night will feature a full-length work by acclaimed New York visual artist Eve Sussman. Inspired by the Caravaggiopainting The Rape of the Sabine Women, Sussman's feature length work made in 2005, reinterprets the mythical Romanstory in the 70's and crosses continents from LA Hollywood Hills to Athens via Berlin. This evocative and sensual work isenhanced by Jonathan Belper's soundtrack.
The Imaginings of Shelly Love celebrates the unique vision of multi-talented artist Shelly Love whose career hasincluded direction of video clips for independent bands and singers such as Ladyhawke, The Irrepressibles and CharlotteHatherley.
Deep in Vogue explores the evolution of 'Vogue' culture from the queer 'balls' in Harlem to Madonna's Blonde AmbitionTour and is presented in a double blockbuster that showcases Jennie Livingston's award winning documentary, Paris isBurning (1990) followed by In Bed with Madonna (1991).
Public screenings of works by Aboriginal and Torres Strait dance artists created through the new initiative Send TheCameras Out by Vicki Van Hout and Marylin Miller, both former Bangarra Dance Theatre performers are a first for boththe festival and Australian audiences.
