Rezzalp

There are no family secrets between these four siblings. The journey into the self-described 'Pop-Theatre' of Rezzalp is a guided adventure into the personal hearts and minds of sisters Bridget, Helena, Maryanne and Suzanne Plazzer. When you arrive at the other end there is a unique synergy: touching, individual, complex, yet easy to relate to.

Rezzalp has been described as sitting somewhere between George and Tori Amos, but with a distinctive style that is their own. Rezzalp has developed their sound over years spent closely together. Drawing on classical, theatrical and pop influences, the unique and layered four part harmonies define the essence of Rezzalp's sound.

Rezzalp have toured with Katy Steele from Little Birdy and Ken Cloher and have performed sold out tour shows all over Australia. Rezzalp has an uncanny knack for cutting to the core of emotional experiences. Thematically, In My Dreams is an original concept album with songs crafted around William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. More so, In My Dreams is an album of truths where the girls' personal stories are unraveled. Their songs reveal stories of love, loss and life.

In My Dreams was co-produced with Kalju Tonuma to deliver the touches to Rezzalp's signature 'Pop-Theatre' sound.

Rezzalp are set to win their way into your pop hearts.

Review: These four sisters have an amazing talent to showcase personal experiences into emotionally connective songs. The original concept of In My Dreams was songs crafted around William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream although, the lyrics and heart aching vocals show there is more to these songs of love and loss, they contain understanding. The girls have an indescribable and individual pop sound that places them in their own genre. In My Dreams would have to be the highlight of the album, the piano and voice accompaniments creates an amazing song that is upbeat yet, sensitive.

Weary Night and Mr. Messy both have an amazing optimistic beat that proves Rezzalp are easily able to mix their style in comparison to soulfully soft Lullaby for Titania. In My Dreams has a little bit of everything ensuring this debut album would be suitable for all audiences.

In My Dreams, Rezzalp's debut release is in stores, now.

Interview with Rezzalp

How did it feel to hear your song played all over the airwaves?

Helena: I unconsciously start singing along and don't even fully register that it is coming from the radio as opposed to my CD.

Did you have any pre-conceived ideas about the music industry?

Maryanne: Yes... but mainly when I wasn't in it. When I was quite young I thought that when you were on TV and Radio that is where you lived. I wasn't going to live in a box, no way!

Helena: Musicians have cool hair...it takes a lot of effort to maintain 'the look'; I thought it just came naturally.

Do you write your own songs? What's your inspiration?

Maryanne: Yes we all write collectively and also on our own. My inspiration comes from my excess energy and my piano.

Helena: Fairy lights and an out of tune piano always get my creative juices flowing.

What music/artists do you listen to when you are not playing your own?

Maryanne: I love live Melbourne Symphony; more violins and cellos. Locally I like Rae Howell too, she's cool. Honestly though my music tastes are broad, currently I have Vaudeville Smash playing in my car.

Bridget: Camille, Weezer, Bjork, Kitty Daisy and Lewis, TMBG; the list goes on...

Helena: Anything that makes me feels like I'm in an old romantic silver screen movie playing opposite Jimmy Stewart; everything prior 1950. Though I've recently been seduced by Tarran the Tailor's new album; I've fallen in love...you should search him.

What's next? Tour/Album/Single?

Maryanne: September and October we are doing an Australian promotional tour of our album 'In my Dreams' and our Second Video clip for 'Weary Night' is coming too, the official screening for this video clip will be at our Melbourne Show on the 17th of September at the Thornbury Theatre.

Helena: Canada we Canado!

Was there a moment you contemplated throwing in the towel?

Helena: Of course, but then one of us will come up with a new song, and then the bad stuff doesn't matter anymore.

Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Bridget: Recording, as you can finally sit back after it all and hear what you have been spending so much time putting together!

Helena: When I'm in the studio I prefer recording....when I'm performing, I prefer performing.

What/who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

Maryanne: I used to watch Rage as a child, I believe this program is to blame for my passions.

Helena: Maryanne: I would never have known I could write a song if it wasn't for Maryanne saying "Hey lets start a band!" (Luckily I wasn't doing anything that day).

What is the biggest challenge you have faced along the way to your musical success?

Helena: Myself, once I realised that I was my biggest obstacle; everything else became wonderful!

What's a typical day like?

Helena: Everyday is different, but here is my Wednesday Schedule:
6.15am Press Snooze
6.30am Press Snooze
6.45am Play some flute in the warmth of my lovely bed
8.30am Cappuccino from the cute coffee boy at 'a minor place' in Brunswick - awesome coffee!
9.00am At work playing flute / serving customers / singing loudly to my favourite musicals. I love my job!
6.30pm Tap Dancing! (I'm trying to master that routine in Singing in the Rain).
8.00pm Meet the Sisters for Rehearsals/Jamming
11.30pm Play on the harp until I fall asleep

What has been your favorite part of becoming a music artist?

Helena: Discovering that I always was one...

Bridget: When we finished the EP and finished the album... very satisfied at those moments!

If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Maryanne: They Might Be Giants are at the top of the list after that Massive Attack.

Helena: They Might Be Giants, Paul Mac, Steven Schwartz.

Are you single? What do you look for in a partner?

Helena: I look for men who wear bright coloured socks. But come Autumn/Winter I just love all men full stop, (they look so much better in the colder seasons).

Do you have a website fans can visit?

Helena: www.rezzalp.com free download for people who join our newsletter!

Also say hi via Facebook, Myspace or Twitter!

Can you tell us 5 things required for a happy healthy & enjoyable life?

Maryanne: Walking, good food, pets (preferably a kitten), the beach and good music.

Helena: Silence, Music that you can sing really loud to in a crowded street and not care, Fluffy kittens, Nonna's recipe for home made gnocchi and your own tree that you can climb that no-one else knows about.

What message would you like to say to your fans?

Maryanne: Can't wait to see you at the show and online. Thanks for all your support.

Helena: That I would love to have you all around for dinner one night.

What is the story behind the bands name?

Maryanne: Rezzalp is our surname backwards, yes we are the Plazzer sisters; it's a bit like Oprah and her company Harpo.

Helena: Or like The Beatles when they used to be called SELTAEB....and then they realised that it wasn't working.
