Ride For Justice 2018

When close to 300 motorcycles rumble out of Sydney's Luna Park this Sunday each and every rider will turn their thoughts to victims of homicide.

It's the sixth Ride For Justice (RFJ) – it's aim, to raise awareness of the NSW Homicide Victims Support Group (HVSG) as well as funds for Grace's Place - a world first trauma centre for children of homicide.

The idea for the RFJ was borne out of a conversation between Peter Simpson and ride founder, Simon Bouda, in 2012. Peter is the father of murdered schoolgirl Ebony Simpson.

The pair discussed raising awareness of the work of the HVSG. Peter had seen a truck convoy pass through his town and all the locals took notice.

'Well, Pete, I don't drive trucks,' Bouda told him, 'but I ride motorcycles.'

Primarily involving law enforcement officers and first responders, the Ride For Justice now attracts riders from all walks of life - from magistrates and senior barristers to truck drivers and tradespeople – anyone who believes in justice.

"The justice system plays a massive role in the lives of the families of homicide victims and to have police, lawyers, judges and, in fact, anybody who cares about justice come together, riding for justice, means the world to these families," Homicide Victims Support CEO Martha Jabour said.

Riding through Luna Park's 'Face' on motorcycles will be a rare sight as well as a unique experience for participants. The RFJ ends with a 'Peacenic' at the HVSG's Ebony House at Waterfall.

The RFJ has the backing of the NSW Police Force. The Police Airwing, Water Police, Dog Squad, Mounted Police, Public Order and Riot Squad and the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command will all be there.

Last year Police Bank came on board as the ride's major sponsor. It's expected the funds raised by the 2018 RFJ will take the public fundraising efforts for Grace's Place to over a million dollars.

"That is a huge milestone," Simon Bouda said.

"The work the HVSG does is crucial in helping the families of victims of homicide cope with the trauma of losing a loved one and then coping with the legal process which follows."
