23 Russian films, including 18 premiere titles, will screen at the Melbourne season of the 12th Russian Resurrection Film Festival, to be held at ACMI from 5 to 15 November.
And in commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of Victory Day, the 2015 line-up will feature a stunning selection of new and classic war films, for which Russian cinema is internationally famed.
The 2015 epic historical drama, Battalion, which was a huge box office hit in Russia, will launch the Festival's Melbourne season. Set in the spring of 1917 at the height of WWI and based on a true story, Battalion is the tale of the First Russian Women's Battalion, led by the peasant Maria Bochkareva. The battalion was formed with the idea that women warriors would shame timid soldiers into resuming their combat duties. Battalion is directed by Dmitriy Meskhiev, whose 2004 film, Our Own, is also part this year's war film programme stream.
This year's Festival incorporates an eclectic slate of dramas, comedies and romantic fare, with highlights including Battle for Sevastopol, Teacha, Soulless 2, Sunstroke, The Man from our Cemetery, Yolki 1914, Divorce on a Whim and the beautiful animated features, Snow Queen 2 (3D) and Extraordinary Adventures of Serafima. For full details of the 2015 line-up please refer to the Press Kit accompanying this Release.
