Sarah Leete continues her return to music in 2021 with her latest single 'One That Got Away'. Fresh from the success of 'Nothin' Special' which has gathered over 100,000 streams on Spotify since its release in March, 'One That Got Away' is a song of beautifully balanced melancholy and optimism.
Produced by Michael Muchow at The Moon Room studio, 'One That Got Away' is a more grown up, wiser sister song to 'Nothin' Special'. It demonstrates Leete's special ability to write songs that relate to people deep in their hearts. It's an "I'm happy that you're happy" reflection on a past relationship. "I loved the sentiment of wishing someone well who had previously meant so much to you even though you are no longer together," Leete says. "[The relationship] got you both to where you are. Melody Moko's song, Benjamin, inspired the idea, and about a month after hearing that for the first time, an ex of mine posted on social media about getting engaged to his new girlfriend. It was now something that I could relate to personally, so I sat down to write about it."
The accompanying video was produced by Jeremy Minett of Eyes and Ears Creative, and beautifully shot in some lush country lanes near Raymond Terrace in NSW. The storyboard depicts Leete singing in a room full of polaroid memories, flashbacks to a past relationship and also an alternate storyline of the happy family. The twist at the end shows that the relationship did not end because they broke up, but for another reason….no spoilers!
Leete's career has made a strong resurgence in 2021 after a few years of absence, where life got in the way. Her previous single 'Nothin' Special' debuted at #3 on the iTunes Country Charts, and #34 on the iTunes All Genre chart, with a playlist addition to Spotify's Country Chill and national airplay on stations including Australian Country Radio, Kix Country and ABC Country.
Leete was a graduate of the CMAA Academy of Country Music in 2016 and soon after went on to record and release her debut EP Safe. She's toured extensively across the country with The Viper Creek Band, Fanny Lumsden, Bill Chambers, Catherine Britt, and Hayley Marsten, and is regularly seen on the Gympie Music Muster and Tamworth Country Music Festival line up. Leete is heading back out on the road with Viper Creek Band for a few shows across northern NSW in August.
Sarah Leete's songwriting is in full bloom, and with her quirky sense of humour and talent for heartfelt storytelling, she is one performer to watch out for. This is a song to hold on to tightly – don't let it get away from you!
