Artist applications are now open for Sculptures at Killalea, which will return to Reflections Killalea Reserve in Shellharbour from Friday 14th September to Sunday 23rd October and feature over 60 installations from artists around the country.
With artworks made of steel, wood, ceramics and more, there will be a mix of works on display, including that of numerous local schools who are set to take place in 2018.
Sculptures at Killalea have organised $10,000 in prizes and giveaways raised through local corporate funding and sponsorship, and the event, which will enter its third year, has become one of the fastest emerging arts festivals of its kind.
Killalea Reserve Manager Nathan Cattell said the event was a major tourism driver for the Shellharbour region and an opportunity for emerging artists to be seen in the public eye.
'There are few events that offer this sort of opportunity – it's certainly one of the biggest weeks of the year for the park," Nathan said.
'The amount of local representation present is also amazing and speaks volumes for the calibre of artistic and musical talent in the area.
'In 2017 close to 30,000 people came to wander, explore and purchase works on exhibition. Sculptures at Killalea not only has a huge impact on park visitation but also has a great flow on effect for local businesses and accommodation within the area as well."
Reflections Holiday Parks CEO Steve Edmonds encouraged people to take part in and experience the festival for themselves, calling it a unique opportunity to enjoy an art gallery with an ocean view.
'In a short amount of time Sculptures at Killalea has grown into a significant event within the Shellharbour area and it's been great to see the positive effect it's had on the region during the festival's three-year tenure," Mr Edmonds said.
'We are always looking to offer our guests something out of the norm from the typical camping or caravanning holiday experience as well as supporting the local communities in which our parks are found.
'Providing venue support for local events such as Sculptures at Killalea allows us to achieve both goals and I look forward to attending the festival myself in September."
Artists can apply now through the Sculptures at Killalea website. No experience is necessary and festival organisers are urging those with a passion for all things creative to use this opportunity to have their works showcased alongside some of the country's most famous sculptors.
