Be Inspired To Start The Day (And Year!) Right With Special K

In 2017, breakfast inspiration will come in the form of a simple and delicious Banana, kiwi and turmeric smoothie, 'Rawtella" breakfast bars for brekkie on-the-go and a dessert-inspired Crunchy brioche French toast.

To inspire women to have some fun at breakfast with their own Instagrammable creations, Special K has partnered with Liz Lyons of @BreakfastIn…, a source of food inspiration for more than 350,000 Australians nationwide, to curate a list of 2017's hottest breakfast trends.

Taking cues from the list, some of Australia's leading bloggers including A Conscious Collection, Sammy and Bella, Hipster Mum and Ripe Journal have created a number of delicious recipes in the hope women will too be inspired to get creative at breakfast time using Special K in new and fun ways.

"It's great to see how committed Special K is to embracing new food trends, and getting people excited about starting their day (and year!) in such a fun and inspiring way," Liz shared.

The quirky list calls out lavender, sweet potato and turmeric as ingredients to watch out for, and even suggests breakfast desserts for those who feel like a sweeter start to one of their mornings.

@BreakfastIn… 2017 Breakfast Trends List:
1. Much-loved flavours getting a new look
2. Smoothie bowls
3. Quirky ways to serve
4. Tea time
5. Lavender
6. Smashed… anything?
7. Interactive dishes
8. Breakfast for dinner
9. Queen Nutella
10. Turmeric
11. The breakfast dessert
12. Pikelets
13. Sweet potato

Creator of the new 2017 Breakfast Trends List, Liz Lyons said she selected the trends based on what she's seeing on menus as well the reaction people are having to different foods, flavours and concepts on social media.

Inspiring women to think outside the (cereal!) box, the following bloggers have taken up the challenge to create breakfast recipes using the food trends and Special K:

A Conscious Collection's Apple and berry Special K crumble and Special K breakfast bars with 'Rawtella" topping
Sammy and Bella's Banana split with cherry compote, gluten free crunch and cacao nibs and Whipped cinnamon yoghurt bowl with turmeric and forest berry crunch
Hipster Mum's Banana, kiwi and turmeric smoothie and Choc Nutella clusters
Ripe Journal's Crunchy brioche French toast and No-bake matcha mini cheesecakes

This inspiration comes at a good time, with a recent Special K poll showing that as Aussie women focus on new goals for 2017, many will plan to freshen things up in the kitchen by learning new recipes (36%), trying new ingredients (31%) and experimenting with food trends (31%)1.

"Breakfast really sets you up for your day, and is fundamental in helping you have the energy to achieve your goals. I love that Special K is highlighting this connection, and wants to get people excited about breakfast as they starting thinking about goals in the New Year," Liz added. Raising awareness of the variety of ways women can feel good about their bodies, feel good about what they're eating and reclaim the joy in their lives is a continuation of Special K's #OwnIt campaign which launched in January 2016.
