Strictly Ballroom The Musical

LOVE will surely be in the air this Valentine's Day so what better time to reminisce where you were 20 years ago when you first heard John Paul Young's classic disco song LOVE IS IN THE AIR from the hit movie STRICTLY BALLROOM.

With the huge success of the film, its closing song, a remake of John Paul Young's LOVE IS IN THE AIR, re-entered the Australian charts and became a Top 5 hit in October 1992.

Lovebirds who heard the song all those years ago can relive those romantic memories from 25 March 2014 when STRICTLY BALLROOM THE MUSICAL premieres at the Sydney Lyric Theatre.

A cast of 42 are currently in the rehearsal room at Carriageworks under the direction of Baz Luhrmann who is working with his very own Valentine, designer Catherine Martin, to recreate this Australian classic for a new generation of lovers.  LOVE IS IN THE AIR will feature alongside other classics from the film PERHAPS, PERHAPS, PERHAPS and TIME AFTER TIME along with new original songs (to be announced shortly).

STRICTLY BALLROOM THE MUSICAL is the inspiring story of a championship ballroom dancer who defies all the rules to follow his heart.  This uplifting and courageous tale originated as a stage play that Baz Luhrmann devised with a group of students at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) back in 1984.
