Box Hill Institute and Sing Sing East are thrilled to announce the winners of the 2019 recording packages for The People's Vote and not one, but three winners for The Judges' Award!
After receiving an overwhelming amount of high quality submissions, not one, but three have artists have tied for The Judges' Awards, each receiving 1-day to record at Sing Sing East with an engineer.
The People's Vote based on the highest number of views on their uploaded YouTube clip has been taken out by Melbourne pop band Convenience Store, who's eclectic curatorial taste for art, film, fashion and literature influence, with their elastic sound. The band's track 'Time To Enjoy' clocked up over 3000 views on their video, making them the clear winners of the 2-day recording package in the studio with an engineer, valued at $2,400.
"Thank you to the Box Hill Institute and Sing Sing for this opportunity. We are ecstatic to use a space with such a rich tradition and look forward to broadening our studio knowledge!" - Convenience Store
The Judges' Award, selected on originality, creativity, and music ability, comprised of industry professionals Ben Godding from AWAL Australia's and venue booker and publicist Sarah Guppy from This Much Talent landed on a three way tie with KODAH, The Good Minus and All Is Violent.
Melbourne based 7-piece soul and RnB infused group KODAH delivered some killer harmonies and grooves on their upload for 'Diss Track'. Although they are fresh on the scene, the band is working hard towards recording and releasing their own material and carving out their place in Melbourne's live music scene.
The second song awarded studio time is 'Mechanical Shark', the first single from local outfit The Good Minus' upcoming album. The song highlights the loss of value put on the arts and music in particular in the education system. "We're really excited and honoured to be joint winners of the Judges Choice Prize. This competition gives artists a great opportunity to share their songs with a chance to record in a world-class recording studio. We look forward to using our studio time to record some new songs we've been working on," says Stu from The Good Minus.
And the third and final winning track comes from Instrumental three-piece All Is Violent, blends post-rock and post-metal with a mission to express the beautiful chaos in life and nature through music. Fitting somewhere between the spaces of Russian Circles, If These Trees Could Talk, Meniscus and Dumbsaint, their track 'The Constant Past' has allowed them the opportunity to enjoy the world class studio facilities, "All Is Violent are honoured to have the chance to record at Sing Sing East Studios. We look forward to producing some new tracks to follow up our EP 'Cartographers Of Human Purpose'."
Convenience Store, KODAH, The Good Minus and All Is Violent will all step into Sing Sing East located at Box Hill Institute to record new material and use the world famous SSL desk that musical legends Paul Kelly, Nick Cave and The Badseeds, INXS, Missy Higgins, Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu, Temper Trap, British India, Crowded House, Powderfinger, The Living End, Shihad, Renee Geyer, Kiss, Lady Gaga, Elvis Costello, and Mark Ronson have all recorded on.
