Summer School Holidays at the Sydney Opera House

Summer School Holidays at the Sydney Opera House

The Sydney Opera House is the ultimate destination for kids and families these summer school holidays with an exciting program of shows, free creative play activities and junior tours from 6 December to 25 January.

The Opera House lineup features extreme adventurer Steve Backshall who is back in the Concert Hall while rockstars of Australian children's literature Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton add another 13 levels to their epic Treehouse. The charming Sarah & Duck visit for the first time all the way from across the pond, and wigged genius Mozart's vibrant compositions undergo a circus twist with Wolfgang's Magical Musical Circus.

The much-loved BBC cartoon series Sarah & Duck is flying down under from 6 – 23 December for Sarah & Duck's Big Top Birthday. In a brand new stage show, little ducklings can meet their favourite friends including The Ribbon Sisters, Umbrella and Scarf Lady as they enter a delightful world of enchanting puppets, colourful sets and true character voices as heard on the award-winning TV series.

After two sell-out Australian tours, Steve Backshall, star of the hit TV series Deadly 60 returns to the Concert Hall from 11 – 12 January with a brand new stage show, Deadly 60 Down Under. Appearing live on stage with some of Australia's deadliest animals and sharing footage of his wild adventures across the country, this is a show not to be miss-sss-ed.

They're back! Get ready for a whirlwind adventure with children's literary legends Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton as their treehouse gains another 13 layers. Climbing into the Playhouse from 3 –20 January, The 91-Storey Treehouse is jam-packed with more weird, wonderful and wacky items including a deserted island, whirlpool, giant spider and a mysterious big red button (but don't push it). Join Andy, Terry and Jill (Andy's wife in real life) as they face their biggest challenge ever – babysitting!

Introducing little ones to the magic of Mozart, Wolfgang's Magical Musical Circus tumbles and twirls into the Playhouse from 15 – 25 January bringing compositions to life and lifting notes off the page.

In the Western Foyers, the free Creative Play encourages families to walk down memory lane by recycling giant Sydney Opera House posters. Children can fashion a fort, build a pyramid or even create their own mini Opera House to play and explore in. Roving characters will also be mingling and entertaining families with jokes, challenges and lessons.

There is even more fun to be had on the Junior Adventure Tour. Families can climb the Monumental Steps, take a peek behind the scenes and dress up in fancy theatrical costumes, all while learning interesting facts about the Sydney Opera House. Once adventurers have worked up an appetite, stop by Opera Kitchen for a delicious harbourside Junior Lunch. Don't miss a thing with the Junior Day Pack: a Junior Adventure Tour with souvenir photo, Junior Lunch and a ticket to The 91-Storey Treehouse, and remember the day long after it's over with a 'creative genius' or 'tutu cute' shirt from the Sydney Opera House Shop.
