Interview with Tamara

Question: What was it like working with FRESHM3N III?

Tamara Jaber: It was so great that I was given the opportunity to work with producers of this calibre. Musically, we hit it off almost instantly which was so refreshing as we were able to create a new sound that had elements of my musical influences over the years as well as their signature hot beats that they are renowned for. Above all they were fun, awesome guys, who were super professional and dedicated to making the best music for me.

Question: What was the main motivation behind the track Do It Right?

Tamara Jaber: When Freshm3n III I first played me this beat idea, my first instinct was that I loved the sensuality and the underlying urban tones. It made me want to write about the experience of when you are first attracted to someone. Lyrically I wanted to describe the infatuation period and the excitement in the beginning phases however I wanted it to be an empowering message for women to feel they can take their time.

Question: Can you tell us about filming the video for Do It Right?

Tamara Jaber: The video was filmed on two different days. The first day was super fun dancing around with all of the amazing dancers. It was a barrel of laughs in between all of the six packs LOL! The second part was shot at night in a freezing cold pool in the Hollywood Hills, where I was literally numb for hours whilst trying to look sexy and keep it together. My lips were turning blue; I was shaking under the water… all in the name of getting some great shots.

Question: What inspired the concept of the video?

Tamara Jaber: The video was originally created for a nail and beauty campaign for the launch of #Gelgasim Nail Polish by Azature Beauty. I guess that's why it was less story driven and more beauty driven featuring beautiful nails and hands all over those sexy bodies. It wasn't intended to be a music video but the guys loved the song so we created the concept together.

Question: What do miss about Australia now you live in Los Angeles?

Tamara Jaber: ahhh so many things... Obviously I miss my family and friends most of all, along with being able to walk to the beach bare foot, a good coffee, Tim Tams, and of course that good Aussie banter. I also miss watching the rugby at a local pub with friends.

Question: How did it feel to hear your song played all over the airwaves?

Tamara Jaber: It was so nice to have people hear my music and see my music again. I've been working on this for a few years now so it felt extremely rewarding to finally be able to share all my hard work and creativity with everyone.

Question: What music/artists do you listen to when you are not playing your own?

Tamara Jaber: On any given day it can range from Beyonce and Kendrick Lamar, to Etta James and some old school soul. I also love to listen to instrumental world music and the newest tropical house hits like Flume, Daya & Zara Larson. You can follow me on Spotify to hear exactly what I'm listening to.

Question: Was there a moment you contemplated throwing in the towel?

Tamara Jaber: Yes of course there have been many days where I've felt challenged, home sick, disappointed when certain things didn't work out as expected; however, ultimately I know this is what I'm meant to be doing in my life so I picked myself up, dusted myself off, and did it all again every day. Nothing great achieved does without highs and lows, failures and successes which makes it all more rewarding when you see your dreams come to fruition.

Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Tamara Jaber: To be honest there's not one I prefer more; both to me fulfil me in different ways. The studio for me is more about the creative process where as performing live is about being the entertainer. There is nothing like capturing people's attention and sharing it with them live. It's the one time, I feel truly free and in the moment.

Question: What/who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

Tamara Jaber: For as long as I can remember, even as young as 4, I wanted to be on stage, perform, sing, dance and share it that with people. It was never a choice for me, it was just who I was, and it's never changed since. Growing up I listened to a lot of jazz and blues as well as a lot of musical theatre including artists like Aretha Franklin, Lauren Hill and Mary J Blige. I connected emotionally to the soul and knew that's what kind of artist I wanted to be.

Question: What is the biggest challenge you have faced along the way to your musical success?

Tamara Jaber: Wow! There are so many I can't pick one. There is so much about the music industry you can't control, just like in life. You never really know what's going to work however the positive aspect about that is that you build resilience, and you learn to have faith. Each day I wake up and try to become the best artist I can be. This has been the biggest challenge to accept however one that builds character and mirrors the same thing in life.

Question: What's next, for you?

Tamara Jaber: New music, new videos, more musical collaborations and lots of live performances. For all of the behind the scenes shenanigans, be sure to check out my Instagram @TamaraJaber. Or, Youtube Channel and Facebook.
