Cable Ties are thrilled to announce The Cable Ties Ball is making its grand return on Saturday 23 February 2019 for a blistering night of music with friends at the iconic Corner Hotel and reveal the full lineup today. The Cable Ties Ball debuted on the live circuit in February this year after the band took out the Corner Hotel Award for their debut self-titled album; it was night filled with such immense music and community, that they've decided to do it all again. Tickets are on sale now from through the venue and Eventbrite.
Performing at The Cable Ties Ball in 2019 is audio-visual two-piece friendships - who famously beat out one of Australia's biggest electronic exports to win Best Electronic Album at the AIR Awards. They will perform a rare live set after holing up for most of the year writing the follow up to their debut album Nullarbor 1988-1989. Sudanese-Australian rapper and artist P-UniQue will be bringing her infectious beats live, she is gearing up to release her forthcoming debut EP Bring Black Back out next Friday, featuring her new single 'Effort'. As well as being rock'n'roll lifers, Brisbane's HITS are also one of the first bands that Cable Ties ever performed with at the Tote many moons ago. They'll be strapping on their boots to make the trip down to show us what's what.
Self-described "guitarless guitar band" Wax Chattels, who Cable Ties met after playing a party at BIGSOUND this year, are heading over from Auckland, New Zealand. Harmony-driven, brooding post-punk trio Moody Beaches will be playing from their new EP Weird Friends, with the live lineup rounding out with rosé rock band Porpoise Spit, who originally formed as a queer ode to D-Grade Aussie celebrities and accidentally morphed into something tragically anthemic.
As we know, it ain't no party without a few bangers thrown in. Enter DJ sets from Triana Hernandez aka DJ Airhorn Mami, Sullivan (I Heart Hiroshima) and Paul Gorrie taking you very, very late into the night.
And of course, your hosts for the night are none other than Cable Ties. Formed in 2015 by Jenny McKechnie (vocals, guitar), Nick Brown (bass), and Shauna Boyle (drums), these three friends summon a rhythmic tide from which McKechnie delivers anthems that turn your latent anxieties into a rallying cry. A testament to their electrifying live show, this year they've received five NLMA nominations - Live Hard Rock Artist of the Year, "The Sheddy" Live Drummer of the Year, Live Bassist of the Year, Live Guitarist of the Year, Live Act of the Year (VIC) - with the band receiving the rare honour of having every member in their band nominated for their musicianship. They have also been nominated for Best Live Act at this year's The Age Music Victoria Awards – so if you haven't had your first Cable Ties live experience, now is the time.
As the name suggests, The Cable Ties Ball isn't just another gig. It's a ritzed up, special night taking over both stages at The Corner, and for its second year they're bringing along some of their most spectacular friends. Community is worth celebrating, and how better to do it than celebrating with style. So, suit up, boot up and sparkle up, and we'll see you at the Ball.
