Earlier this month, Melbourne lads The Grogans dropped their infectious garage surf chant 'Just A Kid', unconsciously conjuring some of their hometown's first good weather in what seems like an age. Now, following the instantaneous and reverberating reception the single has already garnered, The Grogans are thrilled to share a new music video by Jackson Hayat, that is sure to send us into the endless summer we've all been waiting for.
Perfectly coupling the track's distorted guitar riffage and indie rock jangle with distinct Australian summer iconography"windows down, sunnies on the dash, esky full of stubbies, surfboard in the back, and of course, a Kelpie"the 'Just A Kid' video follows bandmates Quin, Gus and Jordan as they set off on a joyriding road trip that acts as a microcosm of their lives. The dashcam captures in equal measure the angst and joy that 'Just A Kid' teeters upon the edge of, and presents in clear view the endearing camaraderie of The Grogans as an unstoppable force both in the studio and on stage.
"We put together a rough concept for the music video; being one shot driving around the block that we live / record & stopping three times to put things in the car that are relevant to three different stages of our lives - Youth / kids, Teenager years and becoming adults through our 20s." – Angus Vasic
"Making the clip for Just A Kid was an absolute ball! We shot it in an afternoon with a loose idea whilst cruising around the East Side of Melbourne. I dug the core concept of it, showing the boys maturing over the course of the song, from a jug of orange juice in the intro to a slab of beers by the close. It really reflects the themes and energy of the tune." – Jackson Hayat, Director
As a live act, the genre-expanding trio are a truly unmissable affair. The band deploy a variety of sounds with cohesion and conviction, mainly focusing on a spacey surf rock ilk, while hinting at gutsy blues rhythms and grunge throwbacks with an inclusive, relentlessly positive punk attitude. The Grogans have supported the likes of Ocean Alley, Maddy Jane, Northeast Party House, Dear Seattle, Drunk Mums, The Chats and Polish Club, and will be supporting Hockey Dad on their 2022 East Coast tour. They have also been announced to play QLD shows 'Best Night Ever' joining Violent Soho, West Thebarton, Teenage Joans and more across two separate nights on The Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast in December, before heading back to VIC for NYE On The Hill. Kick your summer off right with The Grogans and be sure to slap 'Just A Kid' on the aux from the passenger seat.
