Enigmatic, energetic and volatile, with a scorching hot sound best describes Sydney's hottest new rock band to hit the scene, The Lockhearts.
Sounding somewhere between the Black Keys and Queen, The Lockhearts debut video for their track -Freakshow' has already proved to be a massive hit with the MTV audience.
'We were ecstatic when we heard MTV was going to play -Freakshow', telling all our mates, fans and family to tune in and much to our great surprise we've hit the number two spot on MTV's Hits and secured high rotation for the rest of the month," comments the band's lead vocalist and guitarist Tim Meaco.
'We've only had it on air for just over a fortnight now and its going strong, sitting in the prime spot between artists like Katy Perry and Beyoncé, the last place I thought we'd ever be….we are pinching ourselves!"
The Lockhearts released -Freakshow' as a free download for their fans, which they have successfully built a strong following through their eight month strong residency at Oxford Street Spectrum's Ziggy Pop Tuesdays, to coincide with the video release on MTV.
'We took a soft launch approach on purpose to introduce The Lockhearts to the mainstream media and test the market because their style and sound is very different from the -norm' of what is currently in the charts," comments the band's manager Chris Johns from Sunday Morning Records.
'We saw we were getting a fantastic reaction from the live audiences every week at Ziggy Pop and we couldn't be happier with how the broader MTV audience has taken to them."
With a local dedicated following and a single to release, the management and the band knew they needed a hot video to complement their sound.
'We searched high and low for the right director that could create a video that would visually convey the band's loud, colourful sound and when we were introduced to Tan, we knew he was the one," continues Johns.
Tanzeal Rahim is an internationally award winning writer and director most recognised for his POV horror film -Muirhouse' (2012) and is also the founder and managing director of his media agency, The Media Collective.
'When I met the band and saw their passion and heard their sound, all I really knew is that we needed colour – and lots of it," comments Rahim.
'The concept wasn't easy to pull off but I think that the song lends well to the concept of retro, fluorescent colours and we are all really thrilled with the result."
