The Nutcracker from The Royal Ballet

Coming to cinemas across Australia January 31, 2014.

The Royal Ballet's production of THE NUTCRACKER will be broadcast live into cinemas across Australia from January 31. This production premiered at No. 1 in the UK Box Office when it debuted on December 12, 2013 - a Royal Opera & Ballet Live cinema record-breaker! Glittering with holiday sparkle, THE NUTCRACKER is a firm family favourite and is classical ballet at its most approachable.

It features a mesmerising score by Tchaikovsky, a fierce battle between the toy soldiers and the army of Mice led by the Mouse King, and the famous dance of The Sugar Plum Fairy danced by Royal Ballet Principal dancer Laura Morera, with Federico Bonelli as the Prince.

The full Company of The Royal Ballet fills the stage with colour and energy while the set designs, beautiful costumes and impressive staging creates a magical atmosphere. Peter Wright's production was first seen at Covent Garden in 1984 and is ready to reveal its magic to another generation.

Tchaikovsky's intoxicating score, performed by the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House contains a wealth of famous melodies, recognizable to ballet newcomers and aficionados alike. Visually enchanting designs by Julia Trevelyan Oman hark back to a traditional 19th Century Christmas; experience the quintessential British Christmas on the silver screen in this one-off festive treat.
