Demi Moore in The Substance

Madman Entertainment has released the trailer for THE SUBSTANCE, the second feature film from acclaimed French filmmaker, Coralie Fargeat (Revenge). Starring Demi Moore (Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, Ghost) and Margaret Qualley (Maid, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood), THE SUBSTANCE is a bold and bloody, feminist satirical horror. It will release in Australian cinemas on September 19, 2024.

THE SUBSTANCE had its world premiere at Cannes earlier this year, where it won Best Screenplay. The film has generated much buzz for its over-the-top, gruesome and witty commentary on the way women's bodies are policed by society. It also screened as the closing night at Sydney Film Festival, shocking audiences for three sold-out sessions.

Starring Demi Moore in her Golden Globe winning performance, The Substance follows Elisabeth Sparkle (Moore), a fading celebrity who undertakes a clandestine procedure to reclaim her youthful looks, leading to unforeseen circumstances. After injecting the substance a younger and better version of Elisabeth is created, Sue (Qualley).

The film is nominated for five Academy Awards® including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress and Best Original Screenplay.

The brand new film The Substance is premiering on February 15, 2025.
