The Sun-Herald City2Surf

Returning For 48th Year

On Sunday August 12, over 80,000 participants are expected to lace up their running shoes and participate in the world's largest fun run, The Sun-Herald City2Surf presented by Westpac, with registrations opening today.

Now in its 48th year, City2Surf, voted Australia's Best Sporting Event in 2017, is the most anticipated running event in the calendar, with the 14km course spanning from Sydney's Hyde Park through the city's streets, up the infamous Heartbreak Hill, along New South Head and Military Road and coming to a stunning finish on the world-renowned Bondi Beach.

City2Surf brings people from all walks of life together, including elite athletes, fun-runners, families and fundraisers, as well as thousands of spectators, to create a truly unique sense of community.

Fitness guru and Australia's original suitor on The Bachelor, Tim Robards, is starting his preparation early as he confirms he will be running in his 6th City2Surf this year.

"As a Bondi local I love City2Surf and I'm stoked to be an ambassador for this year's event," said Robards. "The vibe along the course is always buzzing with energy and camaraderie and there's a great sense of achievement as everyone comes together to celebrate in Bondi at the end of the race. I'm always looking for ways to challenge myself, and City2Surf is the perfect way to push your limits while having a heap of fun. I can't wait to run alongside the massive crowds again and get my adrenaline pumping!"

Fairfax Event's Head of Sport, Sarah Young, said that City2Surf is much more than just a running event.

"Just as participants and spectators have grown to love the unbeatable community atmosphere that City2Surf is famous for, our team have been waiting in excited anticipation to once again launch this incredible event. It's always so fantastic to see thousands of people get involved, from elite runners, to families, fundraisers, and volunteers, as a wave of people walk, jog or run the iconic course. As well as the main event, this year people can expect a beachside event village, live entertainment, food stalls, and much more in the ultimate celebration of our incredible city".

Returning for the ninth year in a row as City2Surf's presenting partner, Westpac is proud to have a long-standing association with one of Australia's biggest events.

Jessica Power, Westpac State General Manager NSW said, "We're delighted to be working with Fairfax to bring this fantastic event to Sydney and continue our support in raising funds and awareness of the vital community service provided by the official charity partner, the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Service.

"The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service has been helping Australians when they need it most; performing over 80,000 missions since it was founded in 1973, with no one ever paying to be rescued. We look forward to seeing the Sydney community come together to get behind an important cause and getting involved in one of the city's most iconic events."

Westpac customers can log into Rewards Hub via their Online Banking for 10% discount on entry, any time before 10pm Saturday 28 April.

City2Surf has raised over $36 million since 2008 when the fundraising tally was first recorded. This year City2Surf aims to help raise another $5 million for more than 900 charities. Participants can visit Everydayhero to begin their fundraising efforts and donors can also search for charities of their choice to support.
