Earn your stripes as you take strides towards tiger conservation with Dreamworld's adorable cubs, Melati and Mya.
Be one of the first to follow in the paw-prints of our newest generation at Tiger Island, with the new Tiger Cub Walks now available in time for Global Tiger Day on Sunday 29 July.
This experience of a lifetime will get you up-close and personal to the inquisitive, 25-week-old sisters, who are growing up quickly weighing in at about 30kg each. The intimate experience (with a maximum of six people per experience) will give you the opportunity to learn about the plight of wild tigers from Dreamworld's experienced handlers while walking with them around the park before opening hours. With fewer than 4,000 tigers left in the wild, Melati and Mya, along with Dreamworld's 10 other resident tigers, play an important role in helping save their cousins in the wilds of Sumatra, Russia and Nepal.
Animal experience programs help raise funds for global tiger conservation efforts, through the Dreamworld Wildlife Foundation. Guests can also contribute to DWF via our Adopt-An-Animal program (available online or in-park) or one-off donations made to any of the donation boxes located around Tiger Island. There is also a range of merchandise for sale in the Tiger Bazaar Shop, with a portion of each purchase directed straight to DWF.
"Our various fundraising initiatives continue to raise money which fund anti-poaching teams globally," Tiger Island Manager Patrick Martin-Vegue said.
"The results of these contributions towards anti-poaching teams in Sumatra, speak for themselves with Wild Cats Conservation Alliance reporting a 78% reduction of active snares recorded in the region last year compared to the previous year. The teams have also seen an increased frequency of tiger presence in the area in that time."
"We have a long way to go, but these promising results show us how important it is to continue the fight for tiger conservation, and that every cent counts."
In alignment with Global Tiger Day on Sunday, several other initiatives will also be launched by Dreamworld to raise much-needed funds for global tiger conservation. Visitors will soon be able to round-up any payment they make in-park, with all additional funds going to DWF or, donate via a tap-and-go system whilst roaming around Dreamworld.
"We're very proud of the fact the Dreamworld Wildlife Foundation is one of the world's largest financial contributors to wild tiger conservation," Pat said.
"We hope that we can educate more people about tiger conservation and instil the drive towards making a difference, one step at a time."
VIP Tiger Cub Experiences and photos are still available within the park.
