Interview with Tina Says
Question: What inspired the move to Tinted Records?
Tina Says: I've actually never signed with a label before. I definitely had received a few offers but I never felt that it was a good fit/or a good deal so I decided against (which was very hard being an excited artist wanting to move forward) until something I felt was right came along. One of my values is to work with people I get a good vibe from, genuine and passionate people and I got that 100% from Tinted. I also like to follow my gut instinct about things. So far with only one release under our belt, I am so happy with all the work that was done!
Question: Can you tell us about Elevate?
Tina Says: Elevate is one of my better-produced tracks that really show my progression as a music producer. It was written in my studio on one of those days that my ideas were flowing well. The vocal came to the track a bit after the idea was laid out and I remember thinking how perfect of a fit they were! I got so excited when this one was finished. Sitting on it for over eight months was the hard part though (laughs).
Question: What was the main motivation for Elevate?
Tina Says: I wanted to write something that I would be crazy excited to play into my sets, so predominantly a club heater.
Question: Can you tell us about Body Control?
Tina Says: Body Control is the little side passion of mine, that for me connects the dots between why I got into DJing and showcasing my project. So it's a recorded video mix party that a friend Tay and I started in June 2018. I wanted to start putting out a mix series every few months and he suggested we video the mix being recorded at cool locations, parties - to add a visual element to a mix and step it up! So far we have done one on a balcony, poolside, one with 3D mapping and the next one will be the first of its kind at a clubs courtyard in Perth. We've actually had such a good response to the event going public that it surprised me. It's on Dec 5th (Thurs) at Nevermind Small club.

Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?
Tina Says: They are completely different experiences, I love performing as its energetic and working a crowd is resonating! It's also where all your studio time comes together by playing ideas and releases. I'm extroverted so energy from being around people and performing is so uplifting for me. On the other hand, I love being creative and I love challenges which the studio time does for me. I love when an idea is flowing and I feel like I'm onto something - that is exciting on another level!
Question: Which is your favourite song to play live and why?
Tina Says: At the moments, it's Kaskade - Tight. It's such a different and fun club song that always plays so well anywhere I play.
Question: If you could have anyone, in the world, attend a show, who would it be?
Tina Says: My dad.
Question: What motivates you most when creating music?
Tina Says: My motivation comes from striving for more. I always want to be better at what I do. I believe in the 10,000 hours to master your craft so I set aside the days I can to be the studio either writing or learning! Plus writing music is fun, I'd way prefer to spend my days on this than doing something I'd hate so I find the motivation easy, well most days (laughs).
Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?
Tina Says: I have been smashing the new Ben Bohmer album, what a masterpiece! Anything from Anjunadeep is amazing; not necessarily tracks I would play out but I love listening to that style.
Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?
Tina Says: Boys Noize, I was obsessed with him as a teen. It was actually my friend Tay who videos Body Control who showed me all these artists and tunes and then he let me borrow his decks. After a few years, he started working with a few people who were running club nights in Perth so I got into it through all that.
Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?
Tina Says: Chris Lake or ZHU.
Question: What's a typical day like?
Tina Says: Wake up 7am (most days - sometimes 8/9am). Take the dog for a walk, go to Pilates, do some admin work then open Ableton and see what happens. I do work at a cafe twice a week for a consistent income and sanity (laughs) I find talking to customers and people a good break from being by myself and inside my head on the other days.
Question: Can you share your socials?
