Transformers: Dark of the Moon, the highly anticipated latest installment of Michael Bay's Transformer franchise, opened in Australian cinemas at midnight last night and took an outstanding AUD$2,650,788 in its first day. This is the biggest opening day for a film at the Australian box office this year and beats both of its predecessors as the biggest opening day for a Transformers film.

The film was shot using the 3D technology that was developed for Avatar and obviously audiences can't get enough with 70% of the box office taken on opening day being from 3D screens.

When a mysterious event from Earth's past erupts into the present day it threatens to bring a war to earth so big that the Transformers alone will not be able to save us. The third installment of the hit franchise, Transformers: Dark of the Moon stars Shia LaBeouf, John Turturro, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Patrick Dempsey, Kevin Dunn, with John Malkovich and Frances McDormand.
