Listen to While Our City Sleeps on Spotify
Norwegian born, Melbourne based Tuva Finserås returns with her single While Our City Sleeps, the third single form her forthcoming self-titled debut EP, set for release Friday 15th June.
Opening with soft picking guitar, the hypnotic track is an ethereal journey that uses inspired motifs from nature to tell anecdotes. The easy tempo and sparse instrumentation emphasise the importance of the lyrics and intricacies of the vocals, which tell the tale of an unexpected relationship breakdown. The minimal instrumentation representing the loneliness that then ensues.
Tuva's vocals are delicate, intricate and ethereal. Although the work is solemn, her angelic voice ensures you remember there's always light at the end of the tunnel. The classical pianist wrote the track with three distinct movements, the peaceful beginning, sadness in the breakdown, and the awakening at the end.
"Whilst everything is feeling dead in the middle, you hear that things come back to life with the vibrant change in the composition and optimistic change of pace at the end of the piece." Tuva explains.
Tuva's early musical days were fuelled classical piano and composition. She found she needed to spread her wings and a change of scenery to further pursue her passion for the arts. The move to Melbourne was inspired by her formative years watching iconic Australian sit-com Home and Away and made the move in 2015.
While Our City Sleeps follows Easy Going Monday and Pack of Wolves and will be joining them on her forthcoming self-titled EP, produced by Benjamin McCarthy (Gordi, Alex the Astronaut, Nyck, G Flip). The track is a change of pace from her previous singles, showcasing her diversity and highlighting her innate ability to summon her listener through compelling lyrics and delicate song structures.
