Free Lantern & Indigenous Workshops in Eumundi

Date:'Saturday 16 April and Saturday 7 May '
The first workshop is with renowned community artist Tamara Kirby, who will teach participants how to make a stunning star shaped illuminated lantern. This one day workshop is scheduled from 9am - 3pm on Saturday 16 April, and is limited to 30 spots.

The second workshop will take place on Saturday 7 May from 8am - 12noon with local Gubbi Gubbi artist Lyndon Davis. Sixty participants will have the opportunity to learn about indigenous art while decorating one of the lanterns. Body Art originated in indigenous culture and the Indigenous Art Project aims to incorporate local indigenous art into the Australian Body Art Carnivale.

Organisers of The Australian Body Art Carnivale will be launching the 2012 event on Wednesday 30 November, with a special live body painting session by world renowned body artist Bec Anthony.

In keeping with the 2012 theme of 'Under The Sea', Bec will be painting up a sea of colour using a body as her canvas - as with the many competitions each year at the annual Australian Body Art Carnivale held in Eumundi.

The model will be Tanya Young from Kingfisher Bay Resort (one of the sponsors for the 2012 event) and the resulting artwork will become the flagship image for 2012.

Smuggled from Iran to France on a USB drive inside a cake, Jafar Panahi and Mojtaba Mirtahmasb's 'non' film documents a day in the life of the Iranian director while confined to his Tehran apartment under house arrest following a court ruling in December 2010 that was upheld by a Tehran appeal court in October 2011. Panahi is currently appealing against a six year prison sentence as part of a sentence that also imposed a 20 year ban on film-making, travelling abroad or talking to the press.

On their own - Britain's child migrants
From the 1860s through to 1967, more than 100,000 children were sent from Britain to Australia and other Commonwealth countries through child migration schemes, which changed the lives of these children dramatically. This exhibition explores the history and motivations behind the government endorsed child migration schemes. It conveys the experiences shared by the children and follows the lives of some former child migrants in their own words, letters, photographs, objects and other personal collections.

Open for (more than) Business
Many local businesses run by people from migrant communities offer more than just a service. They can act as community hubs and provide links to a homeland while also helping recently arrived migrants establish a connection with their new home. Featuring photographs, stories and a documentary, Open for (more than) Business explores the unique role that local businesses play in Melbourne's migrant communities, from an Indian grocery store in Clayton to an Italian barbershop in Brunswick.

Belonging: Reflections on Place
A video installation by video artist Wendy Woodson and installation artist Kathy Couch (with sound design by Myles Mumford), Belonging: Reflections on Place features interviews with diverse migrants and refugees and members of their families living in Australia who reflect on their experiences of place, migration and belonging. Large scale projections of travel and migration inspire a sense of movement and transition from place to place, encouraging visitors to reflect on experiences of place and belonging across different continents and cultures.

Filipino-born, Brisbane-based artists Alfredo and Isabel Aquilizan touchdown in Melbourne to create Another Country - a series of projects done in partnership with the Immigration Museum. The series explores ideas of journeys, migration and memory, as well as the life and meaning of everyday objects kept and cherished or discarded and forgotten over time. Projects include:

Museum Victoria Members have the opportunity to join Alfredo and Isabel Aquilizan in creative workshops. Bring along a significant object or photograph that evokes memories of travel and migration to create a display inspired by the stories behind these items. Each display will be installed by the artists in the Immigration Museum amongst the trappings of travel for visitors to explore.

Our Children Our Future
Our Children Our Future is an exhibition by Koorie children and youth that celebrates the strength, diversity and vibrancy of Victorian Aboriginal culture. It is the result of a collaborative project between the Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency (VACCA), Aboriginal Elders, artists and community members from across the state. VACCA provide a series of creative workshops for Koorie children to spend time with Elders, artists and community members to learn about their culture and interpret them through song, dance and visual art. Many of the children's achievements from the workshops are on display in Our Children Our Future.

Summer school holiday program: Tiddalik the Thirsty Frog
Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre at Melbourne Museum presents a fun filled summer school holidays with Tiddalik the Thirsty Frog. Laugh, dance and sing along with Tiddalik in a lively performance, meet some real native Victorian frogs and make your own frog mask with beautiful Victorian Aboriginal art designs. Tiddalik is a Victorian Aboriginal creation story belonging to the Gunai people of Gippsland. The story follows the thirst of a small frog whose greed has him drinking all of the world's water, leaving all the animals and plants thirsty and withering. How will the animals force Tiddalik to return the water? A wise old wombat suggests that if they can make the giant, bloated frog laugh he will spill out all of the water. Will they make Tiddalik laugh?

Adored by children around the world, Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler's award-winning picture book The Gruffalo will be brought to life, in a musical adaption next school holidays, from 24 September - 8 October, as part of the Kids at the House program.

The Gruffalo tells the tale of a plucky and imaginative mouse who uses his wits to survive when he encounters three hungry predators - a fox, an owl and a snake. Rather than becoming the main course of their next meal, Mouse kills their appetites with stories of an imaginary monster friend. Little does this clever mouse know, she will have to escape the jaws of this faux protector as well.
