Junkit Jewellery craft workshops on Saturday 23th June, Saturday 30th June, and Saturday 7th July.

The Wonders of Ancient Mesopotamia
The Wonders of Ancient Mesopotamia is a magnificent exhibition exploring an ancient era of extraordinary invention and innovation. The region of Mesopotamia played an extraordinary role in the development of human civilisation, from which emerged many of the fundamentals of the modern world, including the invention of writing, the 60-second minutes and systems of law and government. Visitors to the exhibition will see more than 170 artefacts that reveal many aspects of Mesopotamian culture, from massive carved stone reliefs depicting scenes of battles and hunting to gold jewellery.

River Woman

Ritual and Ceremony is an exhibition by renowned Koorie artist Maree Clarke that explores traditional ritual and ceremonial practices of her Victorian Aboriginal Ancestors. This exhibition tells the story of the ancient trade in sea cucumbers (trepang). Trepang explores the long history of cultural exchange and trade between the Chinese, Macassan and northern Australian Aboriginal people. Combining historical artefacts, paintings, maps and photographs with new works to tell the story of the Aboriginal and Asian contact around the trepang (sea cucumber) trade from the early 18th Century to the early 20th Century. Trepang is founded on a 20-year friendship between classically-trained Chinese artist Zhou Xiaoping and highly respected Indigenous Australian artist John Bulunbulun. The exhibition features contemporary works including cross-cultural collaborations of traditional Chinese and Australian designs.

Objects made in Ancient Egypt and found in Tutankhamun's tomb included ceramics, glass, metals, stone and textiles. How might have these objects been made? Were they made locally or traded from afar? How were industries such as the workshops of the Ancient Egyptians organised? Where were they situated? How do we know? Our Children Our Future is an exhibition by Koorie children and youth that celebrates the strength, diversity and vibrancy of Victorian Aboriginal culture. It is the result of a collaborative project between the Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency (VACCA), Aboriginal Elders, artists and community members from across the state. VACCA provide a series of creative workshops for Koorie children to spend time with Elders, artists and community members to learn about their culture and interpret them through song, dance and visual art. Many of the children's achievements from the workshops are on display in Our Children Our Future.

Australian poet, Kate Middleton, the recent recipient of Sydney's first City Poet will offer one of her poems to be transformed on stage at Acting On Ink at The State Library's Dixson Room on Saturday November 19 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm.

Never before experienced in Australia, the new entertainment phenomena features hot young talents Meredith Penman (City Homicide), Holly Austin (Footy Legends 2006) and actor/ playwright Nick Coyle (October Sapphire) as they interpret the works of 2011's award winning poets Mark Tredinnick, Robert Adamson, Jennifer Maiden, Cate Kennedy and now, City Poet Kate Middleton.

A new initiative by Australian Poetry Ltd, the City Poet Prize has been newly developed to encourage and promote the reading, writing and appreciation of literature and poetry across Sydney and New South Wales.

Just in time for the school holidays, Hairy Maclary and Friends, will make its Australian debut on the Playhouse stage as part of Summer at the House from 15 December. Family happy hour: every Saturday and Sunday from June 2nd between 12 and 1pm there will be a dedicated family rink, free beginner lessons and skate aids provided free of charge
Twitter Time: all entry, including standard skate hire $17 after 7pm Wednesday - Sunday and everyday of the school holidays
