National Sports Museum Basil Sellers Fellowship

Photographer Ponch Hawkes has recently completed a 12 month National Sports Museum Basil Sellers Fellowship, during which she created Eros, Philos and Agape - an installation about love and dedication in sport, which is on show until August 30th, 2012.

Ponch has recently completed her 12 month National Sports Museum Basil Sellers Fellowship and worked with four junior athletes to explore the various kinds of love that circulate within the 'pyramid of sport', a term for the relationship between emotions, motivations and skills needed to achieve athletic success. It depicts both positive and negative experiences (sacrifices and love) made by the athletes, their families and coaches required to succeed at an elite level.

The PS Melbourne Centenary River Festival

The PS Melbourne Centenary River Festival will be held on Sunday 9th September at the picturesque Mildura riverfront to celebrate the 100th birthday of the iconic Paddle Steamer Melbourne.

Heritage paddle steamers and riverboats will travel from South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales to join the birthday celebrations and it will be the largest congregation of vessels Mildura has seen in 50 years.

Over 30 heritage and river boats will be on display on the day and the grand flotilla will arrive at 11.00 a.m. The Sunraysia Farmers Market will commence at 9.00 a.m. followed by the Mildura District Brass Band, food stalls, steam machinery displays, wine tasting, short cruises and much more. The PS Melbourne Centenary River Festival will be a family fun event and entry is free.

There are two school holiday programs happening at the award winning garden centre's acreage in Carseldine including:
Super Succulents: Participants will also learn about the funny forms succulents take, how to pot succulents, grow them from pieces and create their very own succulent pot to take home.

Bush creatures: Little explorers will enjoy a garden safari and learn about the bush creatures that live in these green habitats. A creative activity will allow children to create a model animal and pot-up a plant habitat to take home.

And three programs at North Ryde:
Crawly things to beautiful wings: Participants will learn about the lifecycles of garden creepy-crawlies and how some can transform into beautiful butterflies and will pot up their own flower garden to take home.

Plant from pips and pieces: this will teach children how to select and cut fresh plants, how to properly grow seeds and enjoy spending time with nature. Participants can even take home their potted seedlings.

Little green thumbs: this interactive hour-long session includes fun games, crafts and gardening activities for both children (3-5yrs) and parents.

The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will provide and pitch the tents, collect and stack the firewood and even provide the food - families just need to bring themselves.
