Christmas and Summer Fun at Fed Square

Fed Square, the heart of Melbourne and home to music, projections, festivals, exhibitions, markets, installations and fun is set to become the place to be over the Summer months ahead.  Melbourne will come alive when a giant Christmas Bauble lights up on Tuesday 29 November, heralding in the festive season and a very full range of activities that run until February.  With something for everyone, Fed Square will connect locals, visitors and families alike with its comprehensive program of Summer activities wrapped up in a big dose of Christmas cheer.

Christmas Bauble

Tuesday 29 November – Friday 30 December 2016 – St Paul's Court

24 hours | Free

The first of its kind ever displayed in Australia, the six metre high white bauble will glitter during the day and twinkle at night.  Illuminating the court opposite St Paul's Cathedral, the pretty bauble will celebrate the festive season and be a beacon for all.  Visitors will be able to walk into the bauble, take a selfie and celebrate the joy of Christmas in Fed Square.       

But the bauble won't be the only source of light in Fed Square this festive season…..

Christmas Projection Show

Tuesday 29 November – Monday 26 December 2016

9pm – 11pm | Free

This year, Fed Square will be part of the City of Melbourne's mesmerizing Christmas Projection Show, lighting up The Square's facades with our favourite Christmas characters.  Visible from 9pm each night, a continuous light show will create an immersive and heart-warming spectacle.

Koorie Krismas

Sunday 11 December

1pm – 4pm | Free

Presented by the Koorie Heritage Trust and Fed Square visitors can create -Krismas with a K' for just one day.  This family-friendly event features free activities, live music from Culture Evolves and Tongberang'I Ngargga Inc amongst others, decoration workshops and a special visit from Koorie Klaus.  The kids will delight in this celebration of Koorie heritage whilst parents can visit the Koorie Art Show for a dose of Krismas culture!

Fed Square's Festive Fair

Sunday 18 December

10am – 5pm | Free

Stop, shop, refresh and enjoy as Fed Square's Festive Fair makes Christmas shopping easy.  Grab a coffee and explore the range of market stalls full of local goodies.  Think unique gifts, crafts, treats and festive favourites and you have a one-stop Christmas shop!

Hit up the food trucks and choose from a delicious range of global cuisines, then get moving to the energy of African dance and drumming, enjoy live music performances by the Choir of Hard Knocks and Gruppo Culturale Italiano Choir, and check out some of Melbourne's best buskers on the Busker Stage sponsored by the City of Melbourne.

That's not all!  The big screen in The Square will feature some much-loved Christmas movies to warm the heart and set the spirit for the week leading up to the big day!

Christmas Eve

Saturday 24 December

Head to The Square for a special family concert featuring The Jingle Belles!  Sing along as this sassy trio give a modern and glamorous twist to our favourite festive tunes.  With sublime harmonies, The Jingle Belles will sing in the spirit of Christmas with style.  MC DJ and comedian Fiona Scott-Norman will spread her unique Christmas cheer whilst spinning some classic festive vinyl.  And after the concert, stay on to watch everyone's favourite Carols by Candlelight on the big screen.

New Year's Eve 2016

Sunday 31 December

8pm - late | Free

Ring in the New Year at a dance party like no other. Combining a powerhouse of live music and entertainment to welcome in the New Year, Fed Square's free celebration will not only be a party to remember, but also the best place to watch Melbourne's impressive and much anticipated fireworks.  With a program designed to reflect the city's rich and diverse music scene, The Square will come alive to a feast of music to get toes tapping and feet dancing.  Think Latin beats, salsa, funk, hip hop, Caribbean spice and new school dance battles.

Come glammed up and join in the kaleidoscope of colour and movement.  Sing your way to midnight as Quarter Street channel Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson with a show-stopping rendition of -UpTown Funk'.  Fed Square will welcome 2017 with an entertainment line-up supported by Multicultural Arts Victoria, celebrating the city's diversity whilst watching the clock tick over to another year.

Slide The Square

 Last year was such a success that Fed Square is bringing back the slide!  Cool down with the inflatable waterslide that gives you 75 metres of slipping and sliding fun in the sun.  Perfect to escape the city heat, bring friends and family along for a wet and wild ride down the slope of The Square.  Just make sure you pack a change of clothes because you will get wet!  A unique Melbourne experience, this is one for little kids, big kids and parents alike! Make a day of it and park in the Fed Square Car Park, grab a bite to eat in one of the many eateries in The Square and check out some great exhibitions too!

The perfect opportunity to soak up summer evenings, Fed Square Live features some of Melbourne's most talented and emerging artists.  A summer concert series like no other, Melbourne's music lovers can pull up a deck chair, slip on their dancing shoes or just settle down in one of Fed Square's restaurants and bars and surrender to the joy of open air, live music in the heart of Melbourne.

Get moving and shake your summer booty with a range of regular, free health and fitness events this summer.

Enjoy a program of participatory events with something to engage the whole family. Kids can experience a fun and creative way to relax, exercise and improve body awareness through Yoga for Children. While others may want to join Zumba, the Latin-inspired, energetic dance workout. There is a full range of activities on offer including dance classes, belly dancing, juggling and African drumming.
