Emily is a Heartland Rock/Americana artist based in San Francisco, with a great new release, Brand New Day. The collection of songs found on Brand New Day, provides a window into the life of a modern woman balancing career, relationships, and motherhood. With heartland rock influences and mother fueled songwriting, Brand New Day stands as a voice to a generation of professional women who are balancing careers, family and self-fulfillment in an increasingly complex world. A trend seems to be growing in the media to recognize mothers and fathers who are overwhelmed, stressed out and dealing with guilt over working vs. being with their children and even more so, finding a satisfactory balance. Recent articles that address these issues are: David Brooks, "Empty Nests and Hearts," NY Times, Anna Quindlen, "The Good Enough Mother" Newsweek, and Judith Warner, "Mommy Madness" Newsweek. Emily's timing is again synergistic as Brand New Day couldn't be timelier in addressing these issues.
In addition to juggling being a new Mom and quarterbacking the release of her CD, Emily was the co-chairperson for the San Francisco chapter of the Mamapalooza festival this past weekend. The Mamapalooza festival is dedicated to honoring and celebrating motherhood by featuring Mom-musicians, artists, poets, comics, dancers, and filmmakers. Mamapalooza has garnered media attention for its celebration of the "mom-rock" movement with feature stories by ABC, NBC, CBS, NPR, USA Today, and People Magazine. It was also the catalyst for the Mayor of SF to declare May 14th "Moms Who Rock Day".
