Fans of
Shaggy are in luck as the cool reggae dude with the groovy hair releases his new album
"Lucky Day". This latest album marks a return for Shaggy, whose previous album "Hotshot" was a worldwide success. "Hotshot", released in August 2000, sold more than 10 million copies worldwide, making it one of the top global sellers of the last few years. The album proved a true phenomenon, fueled by the success of singles like "It Wasn't Me" and "Angel," which hit #1 in over 15 countries.
"Lucky Day" was produced by Shaggy himself alongside Robert Livingston, Sting Intl., and Dave Kelly. The first single to be taken from the album is the catchy anthem
"Hey Sexy Lady," which is getting a good workout on radio! With its lonely solo trumpet and flamenco flourishes, "Hey Sexy Lady" offers a humorous take on the bold and the beautiful banging the headboard in the room next door. The video for "Hey Sexy Lady" was shot in Los Angeles with director Annti J. (Will Smith, Brian McKnight) behind the lens.
Recorded at Shaggy's Big Yard studios in Valley Stream, NY, "Lucky Day" is a reggae thrill ride, featuring a collection of songs that honor women in all their complex glory. Shaggy himself wrote or co-wrote all fourteen tracks and guest performers on the album include singers Barrington Levy and Big Yard/MCA solo artist Rik Rok.
Songs like the mad funky "Shake Shake," "Hooky Jookie," and the title track thrust Shaggy into deep Dancehall mode as he salutes the beauty and sexual power of women. Shaggy soon shifts to a more serious vein with tracks like "Walking In My Shoes" and "Lost." The former offers a message of hope and empathy that crosses racial, gender, ethnic and national lines; the latter powerfully addresses the thug life as seen through the eyes of loving family members. The melodic "Full Control" preaches liberation to and for women, while "Strength of a Woman" and "These Are The Lips" are as understanding and positive as love songs get these days. With the upbeat and prayerful "Another Day," Shaggy completes the cycle, going from five-alarm booty call to celebrating the virtues of woman to thanking the Almighty for the gifts of life.
In recent years, Shaggy has emerged to become one of the world's most popular and sought after stars. He has toured the world and was honored with two Billboard Music Awards, taking home awards for "Male Artist of the Year," and "Male Album Artist of the Year." In addition, he received a 2002 Brit Award for "Best International Male" and was named "Best Selling Male Artist", "Best Selling R&B Male Artist", "Best Selling Pop Male Artist" and "Best Selling American Artist" Awards at the 2002 World Music Awards. Shaggy also received an Award for the "Best Selling Album" at the 2002 Juno Awards in Canada.
