Prescriptions for the rich
The brand spanking new EP from Sydney's own southern locals Fifty Sixx finds them on the up and in the best form of their careers. "Prescriptions for the rich" is five solid and catchy tacks showcasing the bands new found musical diversity. Recorded in Sydney under some crazy deadlines and in the middle of a touring schedule which saw the band traveling 16 hours overnight and spending nights in the studio till 7 in the morning to get it finished the band is justifiably proud of the results.
It follows on from their debut EP Gunpowder Office release in October 2006 which helped introduce the lads to the Australian music industry and scored them a stack of great tour spots putting them in front of thousands of new punters. These included national tours with Aussie rockers Something with Numbers and The Matches (USA), who hand picked Fifty Sixx to open their Australian tour. As well as playing Soundwave and Come Together festivals they scored special guest spots with Saosin (USA) and Billy Talent (Canada).
2007 has also seen the bands most important change with the addition to fifty Sixx family of Mark Barnes on guitar joining the line up alongside Ben Britton, guitarist Benny K, bassist & vocalist Clav and drummer Victor Borg.
"Life insider" is the best example of the bands ability to pull it all back and get us hooked in on a classic big time chorus, with lead guitarist Mark Barnes Van Halenish riffs sitting underneath Benny's best vocal delivery sparking a sing along smash.
The personal highlight for the band though is "The Gift" a message for Benny K from best mate & front man Benny Britton written with insight after the death of his much loved father to cancer. It manages to be uplifting even though the subject matter brings sadness to those involved. Benny K felt it was time to share his feelings about his dad, and what better way to do it than putting it out there with his band buddies who double as his best mates.
A breath of fresh air with their honest powerhouse vocals and driving rhythm, Fifty Sixx are doing it for all the right reasons with their pretentious free, foot to the floor rock. The will now on the road on tour.
