Jenolan Caves Roaring 40s New Year's

This New Year's Eve, at historic Jenolan Caves House, guests can savour the heady spirit of the 'Roaring 40s' - dinner in award-winning Chisolm's Restaurant and jazz band, featuring sultry vocalist, Kristina Mills. Guests are invited to show off their best dance moves and dress the part to really get 'in the mood'.

During the war, cave visitation dwindled so drastically that Jenolan Caves was threatened with closure. In 1945, a visit from Lady Wakehurst (daughter of the 10th Duke of St Albans and wife of the NSW Governor), briefly put Jenolan back in the news. Then when the war ended, an unprecedented boom in holiday travel began! In 1946, Caves House accommodated 32,500 guests, and by June 1947, Christmas at Caves House was booked out! The boys were home, the 'Baby Boom' was underway and jobs were plentiful. Screen idols included Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, James Cagney and Judy Garland. The music of the Andrews Sisters ('Boogie-Woogie Bugle Boy') and Glenn Miller ('In the Mood') was ever popular, while Bebop, Swing, Jitterbug, Boogie-woogie and Jive took hold in Australia.

This New Year's Eve, at Caves House, for only $90 per person, guests can savour the spirit of those heady days - dance to live jazz, enjoy a complimentary glass of sparkling wine with dinner in magnificent, award-winning Chisolm's Restaurant, and choose from an indulgent menu. The menu will offer delights such as whole quail in pepper and cognac sauce, local yabbies, wild hibiscus glazed rainbow trout and frozen champagne soufflé!

The jazz band will feature vocalist Kristina Mills, who will transports her audience back to the days of smoky bars, martinis and romance. Kristina has a sassy sound - rich with soulful expression, warmth and humour. Guests can show off their best dance moves until the early hours. And anyone who feels 'In the Mood' can come dressed up in 1940s style.

Jenolan Caves' licensed cafe and bar will offer refreshments until late. Early dinner guests will have time to enjoy the popular 8pm cave tour 'Legends, Mysteries & Ghosts' ($40 per ticket). Then they can rejoin the party and celebrate into 2011!

Historic Chisolm's Restaurant is one of Australia's last 2 remaining 'grand dining rooms' and recently won an award in the Blue Mountains Awards for Excellence. With its fully renovated kitchen and internationally trained chef, 2011 is looking like a good year.

A range of accommodation is available at Caves House.
