Jessica Paige Once upon a Time
Jessica Paige is an Independent Melbourne singer/songwriter (and well known as a busker in the city) who has won many awards over the past few years, including an APRA Songwriter Award. She recently released her 10 song concept album "Once upon a Time" with a magical launch at The Northcote Social Club.
The album was inspired by Jessica's love of literature, stories and tales. It took 3 years to record and has been a true labour of love for Jessica. Five of the songs were co-written with piano prodigy Luke Howard (multi international award-winning jazz pianist). Recording ranged from state-of-the-art studios to bedroom set-ups and outdoor sheds as Jessica wrestled with the intricacies of Pro Tools.
The first song on the album, "Never Land" won top accolades from the recent St Kilda Festival listening panel. ARIA Award winner, Ash Naylor said it had "a perfect arrangement" and music legend Russell Morris commented "this should be picked up by Pro Tools to show how a novice can make something so great".
The album sound has been described as "rich and resonant" and "beautiful, lush and layered" and include harp, cello, violin, celeste, hammond organ, piano, guitar, bass, drums, pedal steel and banjo plus the voices of Jessica and her brother Joshua. Simon Russell (The Red Eyes), had a big hand in getting it all together in the final stages, co-producing, mixing and mastering. A VicRocks grant helped Jessica to complete the project.
With a video nearing completion for Huckleberry Finn and another on the drawing board for Never Land, Jessica plans to take the songs further afield soon and celebrate with gigs in Daylesford, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide for a start.
