Luna Park September School Holidays

Luna Park September School Holidays

Luna Park will be simply blossoming these September school holidays–with the carousel and great scenic railway springing back into action! Make sure to visit and celebrate with us.

As Melbourne shakes off the winter chills, Luna Park will be celebrating the warmer weather by springing open its doors bursting full of rides.

With all-time favourite rides–the Carousel and the Great Scenic Railway back after their hibernation and a fun-filled competition to celebrate the cinema release of The House with the Clock in Its Walls–the Park will be looking all bright and shiny for the school holiday crowds.

Luna Park's CEO Mary Stuart says she is thrilled to have both these heritage rides ready to delight after months of delicate mechanical repairs and restoration work. "The timing of the completion of the restoration works on the Carousel and the Scenic Railway couldn't be more perfect. Spring is about all that is fresh and new and that is how the Park feels right now! We are so ready to entertain all the children and families who love coming to us when school is out," she said. The works on the heritage-listed Carousel, which have primarily involved its completely unique weight-carrying setup, have taken more than a year.

"The Carousel has not operated for more than a year. Since June 2017 constant work has been done to diagnose and then repair mechanical issues. The operating system of the Carousel is unique and Luna Park consulted with national and international experts including the original manufacturers - The Philadelphia Toboggan Company. The time and effort involved has been worth it and we are delighted that one of our favourite rides will once again enchant all who come to the Park.

"The world famous Luna Park Carousel is a working museum piece. It is a treasure in its own right and celebrates its 105th season this year. We are so proud of our maintenance staff and consulting engineers who have worked so hard to repair the Carousel.

"Over the winter period major rebuilding works have also been undertaken on the Great Scenic Railway. This ensures that all who come to Luna Park can continue to enjoy the amazing 106-year-old wooden roller coaster; the oldest continually operating wooden coaster in the world. Without the love and attention to rebuilding the Great Scenic Railway this historic world renowned thriller would not be still clicking and clacking around the track," said Ms Stuart.

As well as all the favourite rides at Luna Park there will be plenty of Springtime action for the kids to keep them entertained and jumping around like young lambs. In the lead-up to the release of the new movie The House with a Clock in Its Walls, starring Jack Black and Cate Blanchett in cinemas 20 September, families will be able to go hunting for 8 clocks that will be mysteriously hidden around the Park for a chance to win passes to see the film. By solving the clues to find all the clocks and marking them on the special map, families will be in for a chance to share in over 150 family movie pass giveaways to see the magical adventure, The House with a Clock in Its Walls. Also touching down at Luna Park this school holiday period will be The Famous Spiegeltent with a spectacular line-up of LIVE family and adult entertainment. During the day the children's entertainment includes 'Le Petit Circus' – a high-energy acrobatic kiddie delight and at night the fun will morph into adult entertainment including the fabulous Moira Finucane's Dance Hall – A Diva Carousel!

Make sure to visit Luna Park these school holidays, and the clock hunt, fun in the Spiegeltent, the thrilling rides and the plenty of games are guaranteed to keep that spring in your step going and going!
