Taking place in the stunning surrounds of Bambra on the edge of the Victorian Otways, regional music festival Meadow (previously By The Meadow) returns for its seventh installment in March 2020. Besides chopping its name into a punchy one-worder, Meadow hasn't changed in vibe one bit, promising yet another three-day, two-night, once-in-a-year-time party.
Over the weekend of Friday 27 – Sunday 29 March, the iconic Bambra Bowl will come alive with a musical feast to satisfy all taste buds. With the full line-up set to be announced early in the New Year, it is with great pleasure that festival organisers, The Locals, can now reveal the first three acts that will grace the Meadow stage – enter Frankie Cosmos, Elizabeth, and Surprise Chef.
Close your eyes and fall into the dizzying DIY universe of Frankie Cosmos. Three years since the New York City four-piece last toured Australia, Meadow is pleased to welcome the whirling wit of Greta Kline and co. to their humble home among the gumtrees. Taking to the stage on Festival Saturday, Frankie Cosmos will deliver a live performance akin to a publicly broadcast day-dream; drawing from acclaimed 2019 record, Close It Quitely, expect a flurry of both calm and chaotic two-minute bedroom pop songs – an aural degustation if ever there was one.
Following the release of Totally Mild's two picture perfect albums Down Time and Her, front-woman Elizabeth Mitchell is no stranger to the Meadow stage, having charmed festivalgoers in Bambra twice before. Returning to The Otways once again, this time as her namesake solo project Elizabeth; Mitchell and her 7-piece all-female power-house band will bless the hills with richly produced, cinematic pop.
Moody and groovy, the debut record from Melbourne's soul journeymen Surprise Chef, sold out the first pressing worldwide in less than a week. Now they bring the genre-pushing sound of All News Is Good News and more to The Bambra Bowl for a loose Friday night set that'll launch the Festival well and truly into the jazz-o-sphere.
Just a 90-minute drive southwest of Melbourne, and nestled amongst rain forest to the west, the ocean to the south and rolling plains to the north, Meadow really is an idyllic spot to gather. A limited release of tickets are now on sale, at the discounted price of $165+BF with glamping options available, teenagers accompanied by adults can join the festivities for the first time, and children under 12 are invited to be festival goers for free.
Sustainability is taking another leap forward at Meadow 2020. As part of the festivals continued commitment to minimise environmental impact, ride sharing will be encouraged with the introduction of car passes. All vehicles on site will need them and they are $20. Proceeds will be redirected into providing ticket-holders with metallic reusable drink bottles and dishwashing facilities at the event to help reduce single-use plastic and food packaging. Any spare change will fund a tree-planting project across the site in April to help continue providing homes for the local birds.
Gather your mates and stock up the Esky for a weekend of music, camping, BYO and good times.
