MILO Ready to Drink

Iconic Aussie favourite, MILO, has hit the shelves in a new ready-to-drink format offering a convenient, calcium-rich option for active Aussie kids who need a nutrient boost.

With a 4.5 Health Star ratingi, MILO Ready to Drink provides Aussie kids with between 30 per cent and 50 per cent of their daily recommended calcium intake (depending on their age), addressing recent researchii which found some primary school aged kids aren't consuming enough of this vital nutrient. MILO Ready to Drink has already been awarded the 2015 -Australian Healthy Food Guide' Magazine's best lunchbox snack.

A CSIRO reportiii found that some primary school aged children are missing out on dairy consumption moments, particularly at lunch time and after school.

The same report found that 65 per cent of children aged between 4 and 16 years of age do not consume the recommended amount of dairy food each day. For girls aged 9 to 16, this statistic jumps to a staggering 86 per cent.

Accredited practising dietitian, Caitlin Reid, says calcium is vital for children to develop healthy bones and teeth, as well as other systems of the body, such as nerves and muscle tissue.

'People at different life stages need different amounts of calcium – for example teenagers have greater than average requirements," she says.

'It's important for dairy to be included in a child's diet on a daily basis throughout the crucial years of physical development. In addition to consuming dairy at home, parents should look for portable options that are suitable for the lunchbox and busy after school schedule."

Reid says MILO Ready to Drink is an ideal lunchbox option to help solve the dilemma of choosing nutritious options for school lunches.

'As calcium isn't naturally produced by our bodies, the new MILO Ready to Drink is a great lunchbox option for Aussie parents to boost their child's calcium and other nutrient intakes, like vitamin B12 and vitamin D, during the day."
