Zabino helps break down "acetaldehyde", the toxin responsible for hangovers
While Aussies can congratulate themselves for reducing their binge drinking by over a third in the last 10 years, "moderate" drinking is on the rise, and our drinking population may still be feeling a little "dusty" when they enjoy a bevvy or two up to twice a week. Enter Zabino: A brand new, naturally-derived hangover supplement that promises to help alleviate the adverse effects that even just a couple of drinks can inflict on the body.
Zabino is made from a scientifically formulated combination of premium, naturally-derived ingredients, including B vitamins, antioxidants, electrolytes, an amino acid and a herb – all of which have all been shown in scientific and clinical studies to play a role in the physiological and chemical processes that occur within the body during and after alcohol consumption, supporting liver function and helping to reduce the unpleasant side-effects of a "hangover".
While studies show that the majority of Australians (56.1%) are considered "low-risk" drinkers, and consume no more than two drinks per occasion[5], it seems that even just a handful of alcoholic beverages can bring on the unpleasant effects of a hangover. According to bio-medical scientist and creator of Zabino, David Wilson, the likely culprit is acetaldehyde, the toxin that's produced in the body when processing alcohol.
"On a physiological level, when we drink, alcohol is broken down in the body by an enzyme called Alcohol Dehydrogenase (ADH), which as a by-product, forms a toxic chemical called acetaldehyde," says Wilson. "Acetaldehyde is estimated to be as much as 40 times more toxic than alcohol and is the main reason that we feel ill after we have consumed alcohol," he adds.
Zabino contains cysteine (an amino acid) and a number of B-group vitamins thiamine, nicotinamide and pyridoxine, all of which help breakdown acetaldehyde in the body. Zabino's all natural scientific formulation also includes Milk Thistle, an antioxidant-rich herb that supports liver detoxification and cell regeneration; electrolytes to help hydration balance and various anti-oxidants to mitigate oxidative stress.
The carefully selected ingredients also help to boost the body's production of the "master-antioxidant" glutathione, which helps the liver to eliminate acetaldehyde and other free radicals that can damage the body and cause unpleasant "hangover" symptoms.
According to Zabino Director Matt Swadling, the supplement can help reduce the unpleasant effects of alcohol but is not a magic bullet for those who binge drink or drink to excess. "Zabino has been developed for the vast majority of Australians who like to enjoy a drink responsibly, while they socialise or unwind, but also want to feel their best and meet their commitments the following day," he says.
Zabino contains no animal-derived ingredients, no added lactose, gluten or artificial flavours. Zabino is available in packs of 10 (RRP $14.95) or 30 (RRP $33.95) capsules and will be available at selected pharmacies, health stores or online through zabino.com.au.
Directions: Take one to two capsules with a glass of water immediately before consuming your first alcoholic drink. For best results, if drinking more than a few, take two additional capsules with a glass of water before bed. Only take up to a maximum of four capsules per 24 hours.
