Did you know?

Murdoch: Born on 6th February 2007, Murdoch's birth was a joyous and very rare event. Oceanworld is one of only three aquariums worldwide to successfully breed Grey Nurse sharks in captivity. Murdoch means "Keeper of the Sea" in Scottish. Murdoch measured 110 cm long at birth and is the first born for his mother "Pallas".

The Frilled Neck Lizard: The fascinating frilled neck lizard is an Australian icon. They have a 'frill' around their head and when the lizard is frightened, it opens its mouth to fold out this frill, making the lizard appear larger than it is! Another excellent defensive strategy of the lizard is that it can run very fast, and on two hind legs! The female frilled neck lizard lays about 15 eggs which take on average 3-4 months to hatch. Come meet our baby frilled neck lizards Frilly, Tilly, Milly & Billy!

Epaulette Shark: The Epaulette Shark is an oviparous (lays eggs) species that lays eggs approximately 10 cm long and 4 cm wide. The eggs hatch after about 130 days and hatched babies are normally around 15 cm in length. Something particularly cute about these babies is the way they appear to 'walk' on their fins. At Oceanworld, we have the epaulette eggs on display, as well as the adult sharks and our newest baby additions Ace, Astro & Priscilla.
