More than 1,500 Sydneysiders will step out on Sunday 21 October to help bridge the gap between stigma and understanding of mental health at the Wellness Walk.

At the start and finish line in the grounds of Government House, walkers will enjoy the Wellness Festival including warm-up activities with former NRL player and Mental Health Movement founder, Dan Hunt, entertainment from Elly-May Barnes and James Van Cooper, information stands, face painting and a sausage sizzle.

The event comprises of two different distances; a 2km mini-walk around the Royal Botanic Gardens and a 5.9km walk over Sydney Harbour Bridge and back.

The Wellness Walk is an awareness raising exercise for Mental Health Month and also operates as a fundraiser for One Door Mental Health, a not-for-profit mental health service provider for those living with mental illness, their families and carers.

The Wellness Walk is the creation of Larry Smith. Larry started up the Wellness Walk across the Sydney Harbour Bridge after going to New York and participating in the NAMI Walks over the Brooklyn Bridge in support of mental health and fighting stigma. The NAMI Walk now takes place in more than 80 locations across the USA with more than 50,000 taking part.
