Murder, Music, Company Secrets.
As soon as he answered, she said, "It's Jade. Curtis is out the front. He has a gun."
"A gun? Fuck!"
"I'm driving to the laneway. Meet me there."
Steve cursed again.
"Bring your phone and run." Jade hung up.
After rounding a second corner, she reached the back lane, where Steve was scrambling through the wire fence. He jumped into the passenger seat and shifted her handbag into the footwell.
Jade gestured ahead. "Does this road go through? I can't remember."
"No."
Jade reversed back out the laneway then cruised past the turn to Ozone Avenue.
Curtis stood in Steve's driveway, arms crossed"he must have rung the doorbell and got no response. He tracked the Honda and caught Jade's eye before she could look away.
"Jade, stop!" he yelled, sprinting toward her.
Jade accelerated too fast, tires screeching.
"Careful!" Steve cried.
A Killer Among Friends is the much anticipated sequel to the award-winning novel The Godfather of Dance. Book two in the Jade Riley Mystery series
will sweep you into another riveting whodunnit.
This gripping thriller puts journalist Jade back in her hometown of Melbourne where she's thrust into a dangerous whirlpool of insider trading, betrayal, and murder. When her friend Nick is found dead in a dumpster, Jade is plunged back into an agonising grief she's scarcely surfaced from.
She hung up, dry-mouthed. She'd barely put Elena's tragedy behind her, and now it was happening all over again. Another member of their circle was dead. A strangled sob escaped her lips. Two deaths within the space of three years. That couldn't be normal.
Since coming back from Houston in the U.S, she'd struggled to cement her position as a serious journalist. Usually relegated to the light and fluffy stories, Jade must prove herself all over again.
Not only will a serious crime story elevate her career, it might finally bring closure around the death of her best friend Elena and set her free from the ever present grief that plagues her.
In this plot-twisting page turner, Andrea Barton captivates her readers by cleverly casting doubts about each character and their motives for murder.
"But rather than slowing down, her brain sped up. Jade had never accepted Elena's suicide. What if she didn't kill herself? What if she'd threatened to go to the authorities? What measures would Curtis or Danny have taken to silence her? If Curtis had killed Nick to save himself from jail, he could have killed
Elena for the same reason. Identical logic could be used for Danny."
Jade's own life is on the line and she is left wondering who she can trust in this tight knit group of friends. Will she find the killer in time or will she be next?
Andrea Barton has delivered another nail-biting thriller perfect for a Netflix series.
"A COMPELLING WHODUNNIT. Jade is a complex, feisty character, battling her own demons and insecurities."
