Interview with Alyxandra Harvey

Question: What originally inspired the Drake Chronicles?

Alyxandra Harvey: I'd wanted to write my own vampire story for a while and I love fairy tale retellings so I decided Snow White should be a vampire. I wrote it just for fun, never thinking it would be published in this vampire-saturated world. It just proves it: tell your own story. Always.

Question: What do you enjoy most about writing high-action romance novels?

Alyxandra Harvey: I love the combination of adrenaline and mayhem with those sweet, yummy moments between two people.

Question: Can you talk about the difficulties that arose when writing Blood Moon?

Alyxandra Harvey: I had such fun writing it. I was so very mean to all my characters and beat them all up horribly. The real difficulties came when I tackled the very last book. There were so many storylines to tie together and I had to make sure no one was left behind.

Question: How does your life influence your writing?

Alyxandra Harvey: That's a hard one to answer! I don't base my characters on friends or family so it's not cut and dried. I guess it's in the little things: my love of Mr. Darcy, poetry, dogs and chocolate.

Question: Can you share an insight into your writing schedule?

Alyxandra Harvey: I write every day. It's much easier to keep going then it is to start again. Sometimes I'll get a few pages, sometimes just one. With this year's deadlines I've had to make sure I keep on track!

Question: What's next for the Drake Chronicles and you?

Alyxandra Harvey: The last book in the Drake Chronicles series is called Blood Prophecy and will be published early 2013. It's a bittersweet moment. I've been living with these characters for the last few years and I miss them already. I am hoping to be able to work on a Lucy spin-off one day but that's entirely dependent on the mysterious unicorn magic of books sales.

And I've just finished the first book in what will hopefully be a new series. It's set in Regency England (circa 1806) and it's about three cousins who discover they are witches.
